AZLance Report post Posted December 4, 2006 Read the article below and look at the highlighted portion in red... Come on guys pull your head out of the sand! The Mexican Government and Police are responsible for a good portion of the crime that goes on down there!!! I go down to Mexico at least 6 times a year, but I always keep one eye open! State Department warns of travel to Mexico border At least 27 Americans have been kidnapped in past 6 months Posted: 2:06 AM EST (0706 GMT) People cross from the U.S. into Mexico at the Paso del Norte border crossing in Juarez, Mexico. WASHINGTON (CNN) -- At least 27 Americans have been abducted along the border with Mexico in the past six months because of increased violence among drug traffickers, prompting the U.S. State Department to issue a warning to travelers. Of the 27, two were killed, 14 were released and 11 remain missing, State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said Thursday. The abductions do not include "express" kidnappings in which Americans are forced to withdraw large sums of money from ATMs before they are released, Boucher said. Boucher said he understood the Mexican government may not be happy with the travel warning, but "we do feel that it's important to tell Americans about the security situation near the border." "We have worked closely with Mexican authorities to take the appropriate steps to ensure the safety and the security of U.S. citizens in Mexico," Boucher said. "And in situations where Americans are victims of crime, we do follow those cases very closely as the Mexican authorities try to arrest and prosecute those who are responsible." Boucher emphasized that "a vast majority" of Mexicans and Americans crossing the border do so "without any mishaps or difficulties." In its public announcement released Wednesday, the State Department said "violent criminal activity along the U.S.-Mexico border has increased as a product of a war between criminal organizations struggling for control of the lucrative narcotics trade along the border." An underpaid and under-trained police force in Mexico and a weak judicial system add to the problems, according to the warning. "Criminals, armed with an impressive array of weapons, know there is little chance they will be caught and punished," according to the statement. "In some cases, assailants have been wearing full or partial police uniforms and have used vehicles that resemble police vehicles, indicating some elements of the police might be involved." The travel warning, which expires April 25, calls on Americans to avoid areas where illicit activity occurs, "visiting only legitimate business and tourism areas of border towns during daylight hours." az4life Report post Posted December 4, 2006 Facts are, Mexico is a third world country and with this dubious status, they also have typical third world problems with corruption in government and organized crime. This topic started out with a story of how a few Americans were caught up in and victims of some of the crime which is not in dispute. There was also reference to 33 Americans being kidnapped so far this year in Mexico. If even 3 citizens from any other country were kidnapped in the US you can bet your last peso that they would be caught way before reaching 30 others. I won't go to mexico again and would not wish it on anyone, except the illegal mexicans in the US now. Anyone who says they travel to mexico and feel safe, is just fooling themselves. These people probably think that they do not need to have health or home insurance either, since bad things don't happen to them. 112 million is the recognized population for mexico. Using official US government estimates there are upwards of 15 million illegals are in the US now. Of these, over 90 % are mexicans. That is almost 1 in 10 people born in mexico that are living illegally in the US. I would estimate that there are at least double the government estimates of illegals in the country. True, that Many mexicans are friendly and open, but the lawbreaking illegal mexicans have caused the whole country to be negatively branded. Illegal is ILLEGAL... not "Undocumented" or "Migrant" or any other "mamby pamby liberal feel good ignore the problem" name. The best solution is to Kick the illegals out 100%, put up a fence and enforce the border. PERIOD. The liberals see the illegals as future votes when they are all given amnesty. Prbably this year.. just wait and see. Liberals see the situation as perfect for them when they can keep everyone down and keep them coming to government for help, they will always have the votes to stay in office. Rambling now... but illegals are the #1 problem facing the country. You Take your life in your own hands if you go along the border. Now that is SAD.
NativeRat Report post Posted December 5, 2006 I work, hunt, and spend a lot of time along the border, and its is FINE with me if none of y'all want to hunt in Mexico or in 36ABC and the others along the border! I'll keep all those deer and turkey to my bad-A non-sissy pistol-packing self. I get down to Rocky Point regularly, and I have hunted a few times in N. Mexico. I don't speak much Espanol, and get along just fine. You can run into drug runners on a hunt in 36C -- but odd are you probably won't. And you can get carjacked in South Phoenix -- but on any given day, you probably won't. Just as long as you stay aware of your surroundings and are prepared like any good boy scout, you'll probably survive. That said, you can never prevent a random act of violence 100%, and I agree with Writer in a way on that point: I feel less concerned about random violence in Mexico than in the good ol' USA. Baseline killers, Amish-school killer, D.C. Snipers, Muslim terrorists, or any freakin' crack-head, etc... those guys can kill me for no logical, foreseeable reason. At least in Mexico, I know they just want my money, so I don't flaunt it. Seems like the kidnapping was about money, only. So was the murder Truman Capote wrote about in Cold Blood, and bajillions of other crimes that happen in this country. So, its not "shocking," but it does suck. But, ya' -- we DO need border control and IMO the trashing of the water holes and blazing of wildcat roads out there is what I think is really out of control and the main reason I support tough enforcement. I don't really care too much if good people come here to work, as they always have and always will. I just want our government to make it neat and organized instead of the chaotic cluster f- the gov't has let happen.
COUESAZ Report post Posted December 5, 2006 I have shared this many times on this site so much that you all are probably sick of it. Yes i was almost car jaked and shot at twice. It hapend right here in the good old USA at the Cicle K at germain and Arizona ave. It was two illeagles that beat the tar out of an old lady on I10 and stole her car then tryed to still my truck with me in it. And my wife and kids almost had to make do with out me after that. I hunt and have hunted the border all my life. I do not consider my self a Sissy by no means. But in my country i am aloud to protect myself with leathle force if needs be but in mexico I would most likly go to jail for ever for it. So like i have said above have fun down there, But do not try and tell me that it is all peaches and cream In wonderful candy land down there. And i will not tey to tell you that it is here for the same reason. Did anyone hapen to catch the show on prisons in America. Just curious as to what you all thought about the Gangs that are the most dangerous. They are the south mexican group. I am not trying to start a race war here but is this a south gang meaning they are from south of the border. they said the hardest thing is most of them speak no English I am ignorant on this gang and just asking. The next is the north mexican gang. In the C block of this prison it was 260 of the north and south mexican groups, 19 0f the black groups, And 6 of the Nazi lowriders and the Arian brothers or whites. And what about MS13 they are the most feard gang in the USA and they are ran from south of the border. and have infeltrated most states right here in our own country. they are the most ruthless killers in our sates. just food for thought. I do not hope to offend our Mexican brothers in our coues family so do not take this in a bad way as the most sick killers and sinners in those prisons was white guy's. And if the same warning was issued everytime a similar incident occurs in Mesa, Phx, Scottsdale and Glendale, would you stay home or move to Flagstaff? -TONY Comparing an appropriate reaction to incidents like these in the US and Mexico is impossible. Mexico is a third world country because of the corruption and law enforcement reaction is totally different. ( I wonder which came first? the greed and corruption or the deriliction of social responsibilty by the government) Wikipedia definition of a "Third World country" ... the term is frequently used to denote nations with a low UN Human Development Index (HDI), independent of their political status (meaning that the PRC, Russia and Cuba, all of which were very strongly aligned during the Cold War, are often termed third world). However, there is no objective definition of Third World or "Third World country" and the use of the term remains common. The term Third World is also disliked as it may imply the false notion that those countries are not a part of the global economic system. Some in academia see it as being out of date, colonialist, othering and inaccurate; its use has continued, however. [1] In general, Third World countries are not as industrialized or technologically advanced as OECD countries, and therefore in academia, the more politically correct term to use is "developing nation". billrquimby Report post Posted December 6, 2006 Regarding the U.S. State Department advisory. This agency is extremely conservative, as it should be. Its job is to warn U.S. travelers of all possible dangers. That said, I have hunted in a whole bunch of countries and except for Canada, the U.K., New Zealand and Australia I can't think of any that the State Department wasn't advising me to stay away from. I went to Zimbabwe a year year after its revolution, when ex-soldiers with machine guns and rockets were killing, raping and robbing anyone foolish enough to drive the roads at night. I was all over South Africa during the Zulu/Xhosa anti-apartheid atrocities. There were warnings about hijackers and muggers in Lusaka both times I went to Zambia. Someone was eaten by lions next to the ranch I hunted while I was in Botswana. I hunted in Mozambique where the roads had to be cleared of landmines before we went in, and in Namibia when terroriists were coming out of Angola and raiding German farmhouses along the border. I was in Beijing one week after the demonstration in the Square, and in Ulan Bator the same week the Soviet Union collapsed and Mongolia kicked out the communists in its government. There were State Department advisories against going to Paraguay, Brazil and Argentina while my granddaughter and I were there two years ago but I've forgotten what they were. The point is, if I had waited for the State Department to say it was safe, I would have missed a whole lot of experiences to remember now that I'm a-drooling-at-the-mouth ol' fart. I own a few acres above the Kino Springs golf course, one mile from the border outside Nogales, that my wife and I visit regularly without fear, and I'm going to Mexico on Monday to spend a week at a friend's ranch near Caborca and on the beach at Puerto Lobos. If I still were capable of hunting whitetails again there are several spots smack on the border I would hunt without hesitation if I could draw a tag. My greatest fear of the illegals coming across the border is what they are doing to our culture, language and economy. As for safety, I can think of a great many places in the USA I won't go after the sun goes down. Bill Quimby
az4life Report post Posted December 6, 2006 Hmmmm Seems like this news report is using similar information to what I have been stating. (if somewhat out of date) 1 in 7 Mexican born workers are working in the USA. The story also states in 2005 that 9.4 % of Mexican citizens are living in the USA illegally. You gotta know there are some bad apples in that group and they are a big part of the crime problem. When so many people flagrantly break laws, and their own government encourages this behavior, they are pitifull, but really screwed up.
