AmericanThunder Report post Posted January 13, 2014 This has happened to me way more times than it should............. I was out this weekend on my archery Javelina hunt and could not believe the blatant disregard that people have when it comes to etiquette. I was hunting along with my wife and two friends. We set up on a hill right as the sun was coming up and throughout the morning had 3 different groups of hunters head right for us. I waved at the first group and they did the right thing and waved back to apologize and headed back where they came from. The second group decided that first light would be a great time to park at the bottom of the hill I was on and slam their truck doors and proceed to have a conversation that I am sure could be heard 5 miles away. Just when I thought I had had all I could take, the third group of hunters apparently took my effort to wave them off was an invitation to stomp their way up the hill and start glassing not 40 yards from me. If it had not been for my wife to calm me down things may have played out very differently. I wish there was a way to ban these types of people from the outdoors. They do not deserve all that it has to offer.
coatimundi01 Report post Posted January 13, 2014 Had that happen in oct. Saw a guy tromping up the hill I was one and did the sarcastic excuse me cough and made eye contact. He headed right for me! Told him hey I've got two buddies up the hill a ways and he proceeded to walk right above me and below them and head to the very next hill that over looks all of our glassing area... Ugh. Oh well, my buddies went to the back side of the hill and killed a nice 3x3 that we have no idea how the other guy walking around didn't spook or see. Karma! Scooter Report post Posted January 13, 2014 Looks like you need to find a new spot- that one's too popular and accessible! Sorry for your troubles, but that's the price we pay to hunt public. Etiquette and ethics are not currently in widespread practice, so you can either get frustrated or learn to deal with it and/or avoid those who have no sportsmanship.
Coues assassin Report post Posted January 13, 2014 I hate this stuff, same sort of thing happened I was sitting a stock tank about a mile from any road when a razr comes driving right up to the water making its own road. They got out and headed off about a mile up a hill to glass leaving the razr parked about 15 feet from the water. They saw me when the first pulled up and just waved and still left the razr there. It took a lot to just walk away and not let air out of their tires. But I ended up tagging out that day and still saw both of them driving around with their rifles on the last day. So hopefully karma did its job
Viper Report post Posted January 13, 2014 I would have taken pictures, including license plate, and texted them to the local AZG&F Ranger....for what it's worth.
creed Report post Posted January 13, 2014 Unfortunately it is part of public land hunting. I have bumped guys unknowingly and did what I thought was the right thing and either apologized, backed off or both. The "it's all about me" attitude is a sign of the condition of our society today. Not many people out there that care about what they are doing to others as long as they are doing what they want. Run in's with others are going to happen. It is how we handle it that matters. And remember that no matter what kind of jerk the other guy is if he is not breaking the law there is not much that can be done about it. Whip his arse and you are the one in trouble, not him.
rclouse79 Report post Posted January 13, 2014 The area I choose to archery hunt javalina and deer is very easy to access. I go there because I am busy this time of year, and it is the only opportunity I have to get out. I like to get a day off of work to go out because the weekends are brutal. If you want to get away from the crowds you have to burn some calories and boot rubber. I would venture to guess the further you get from the nearest road the less people you will see, and the people you do run into are more likely to be a respectful sportsman. I sympathize with your frustration, but it is to be expected if you are hunting right next to a road. It is kind of like complaining about the type of people you run into when you shop at Wal-Mart.

There is no excuse for when people continually try to take over your stand.....

Edge Report post Posted January 13, 2014 I feel your pain. Took a friend of my wife's on a scouting/hunting ride thru a wilderness area with our small group of horsemen. I'm the only one with a rifle and tag. She too slammed the truck doors and yelled several times and when we started our 20 mile loop, kept trotting out ahead of our group, foiling any chance I had of seeing game. Heck she didn't even know where we were going.LOL At one point, even after a couple of lectures, the rest of us stopped and watched her meander nearly 1/4 mile out ahead while singing to herself. We had a good laugh but had to break our own silence and yell at her to come back before she was out of audio range. I can't recall the last time I met someone so keenly unaware. But we all had a good ride thru Gods country, placed some trail cams and that beats any day I've ever spent in town.
johnnie blaze Report post Posted January 14, 2014 How bout leaving an hour and a half before light to get to my glassing spot just to have a side by side cruise up the wash in the canyon to be at the same spot in 10 minutes.
6ANut Report post Posted January 14, 2014 Some people are clueless idiots when it comes to hunting and were never taught the do s and donts of proper hunting ethics and etiquette. Trust me my dad now hunts with one of these types of hunters and now I don't hunt with them, when together, if possible. My old college baseball coach always talked about having a constant spacial awareness in whatever you do in life. That has always stuck with me and if more people had it this world would be a better place.
