COMPLETELY OUT OF CONTROL GREED AND ROBBERY!!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

Guest wdenike

Just want to say, I went with my Dad to purchase a non resident general license as he is from Pennsylvania. So we could do some varmint calling. Upon asking the agent for a general license we were politely informed that they were no longer available. Now we are forced to buy a combination hunt and fish license for an additional 60.00. A fishing license he didn't need nor want. Just wondering what all the out of state elk hunters, and residents for that matter think of the latest money grab ( theft ). And how and when is the time to hold these sorry POS government employees accountable???? I mean this act is no different than calling a small appliance repairmen to work on your dishwasher, and have him tell you that to fix the dishwasher you would have to purchase central air-conditioning. Unacceptable in the private sector, why should we tolerate it from our government a-holes.

Take care, Willie

It does seem that AZ is playing catch up with how the other states have been "robbing" their out of state hunters. I also thought their was a temporary license available for small game. I think fees across the board are too high personally. I have a hunting family of 5 and we apply for pretty much all species every time. I thought it was the greatest deal you can now kill two javelina per year and get three or more tags in which to make that happen. They increased the price for javelina for 2014, which amounts to a lot of money for me due to the fact I purchase multiple tags for more than one family member.

Willie,

I hate to break it to you, but your math is a bit fuzzy. A NR Combo license is $160. The previous price of a NR Hunting License was a bit north of $150. That's less than $10 for the ability to fish anywhere 365 too. The tag prices went up for all of us not just the NR's. It's a tough pill to swallow for our tag fees to go up, I agree with that.

This year's out of state Hunt&Fish combo license is $160. Last year the General Hunt only was $151.25. And the Combo was $225.75. So really you're only having to pay an extra $8.75 to get the new Combo license.

I guess Dad bought the last one, the year before last, and at that time it was 100. 00. So the math was wrong. I guess the 51.25 in one year is totally acceptable followed by the 8.75 this year.  Soon hard working residents and non residents alike and their children will be regulated and priced right out of their passion for the out doors. I guess I'm OK with that also. Everything is A OK that the sky is falling as long as the piece over my head is OK. :P Same thing will be coming to a state near you with gun control also. It's happening in other states as we speak. To bad for them though, my piece of sky is still fine :D

This is always a funny topic to me, and one that arises every year, or every time there is a slight increase in pricing when it comes to our wildlife.

Based on most peoples reactions it sounds like most of you would rather not have any type of game department. All they do is take our hard earned money at such high costs for tags and put regulations on when, where and what we can hunt. If we didn't have G and F in place you realize there wouldn't be anything for you to hunt right? No regulation equals no bag limit, no nothing. The Human race and strictly just us hunters, have such a high demand for shooting game, it would be interesting to see how fast, everything would get shot out. If you don't agree with this statement look at our history. The bison, most elk populations, passenger pigeons, just to name a few. Proof that we are all greedy hunters. Even though our animals are viewed as a natural recurring resource there still has to be something in place to keep tabs on them.

Basically what I see when this topic arises is this. I WANT to hunt animals. I DONT want to pay any money to do it. Those two statements can not go hand in hand in our public arena for hunting.

I CHALLENGE you to come up with a management strategy for just one of our state units AND for just ONE SPECIES and see what it takes. Figure out how many animals are in the population, how many you can take out without affecting it. Of course that harvest is dependent on not only hunters. Predation, weather, food. Then determine how you are going to select hunters that get to go because there is an obvious limit to how many can hunt. How you are going to figure out how many of those hunters were successful so you can keep tabs on your population numbers. These are just some recommendations. And as always there are bad apples out there so how are you going to make sure everyone is playing by the rules that you have set out to follow. Do that and figure out everything that you need to do it. Then tell us how much MONEY it is going to cost you.

Here is the Response you will get from YOURSELF after you get this all accomplished:

I, as a loyal hunter that wants to hunt this unit, am going to go hunt it but I don't want to pay you even close to what it costed you to make this available for ME! Sound about right?

The other big picture you have to look at is our economy. What it costs for stuff. It costs a whole lot more for gas now that it did when I was in High School. To think that G and F can keep the same pricing and do the same job!!! COME ON NOW.

Now I am not saying that our Game and Fish is the best. There are tons of things that I think they could do different and better, but I have neither the time or the drive to go and make those changes and thusly I can't and DONT complain about it.

Non-Resident prices, Thats a whole other topic. Still at $160 bucks to hunt and fish all year!!! Seems like a good deal to me. Thats only like 44 cents a day. Less than you pay for your big gulp or coffee at circle k every morning.

I guess in the end what I am trying to say is........IF YOU DON"T LIKE THE PRICES OR WHATEVER ELSE SHOW US/THEM WHY YOU FEEL THAT WAY AND THE REASONING IT SHOULDN'T BE. There's gotta be some proof behind your complaint otherwise SUCK IT UP :)

In the grand scheme of BIG GAME HUNTING as a whole, our prices here in AZ are WAY WAY affordable and cheap. If you don't believe me make a spread sheet, with all the necessary licenses, tags and permits that you want and average it out per day for a year. I think you will be surprised how little money it really is.

The last time the G&F raised fees was 2007 you show me any other form of entertainment that hasn't gone up in the last 7years. I thought a $10 app fee would have been a good compromise 13 seems a bit high time will tell if the extra $3 bucks and $5bucks does any thing to improve access or habitat. Combo hunt great deal for the extra $3 bucks and $5 youth awesome. Tag increases going to sting but hunting and fishing is what my family enjoys to do kids would much rather spend fall and spring breaks hunting or fishing than Disneyland. By the way have you seen what it costs to go there now

Dad paid the 160.00, and if they would have said the cost of the general had gone up that much. That would have been end of conversation. Whether they put their hand in your pocket for .01 or 8.75 for something I don't want. That is where we have a problem. But it has become very obvious that some of us as Americans have become so accustom being bent over, that it has become enjoyable. When some one makes ya purchase something ya don't want. Ya can call it what you want. But I prefer to call it what it is. (A SHAKE DOWN )

Game and fish isn't perfect. They went for broad appeal. Who is that gonna piss off? Well, the non-resident that doesn't fish. You can't please everybody. It's no different than most of the things we purchase. I don't use 1/100th of the features on my cell phone for example. They just come with it.

Lets put it in perspective:

$160 = 4 trips to the movie with your ole lady

= 2 used trail cameras

= 3-4 boxes of 7mag shells

= 1 Kenetrek boot

= a shady trip to the dentist in Mexico

or

= 365 days of fishing or hunting in the great state of Arizona

I know where my money would go. By the way, the non-res hunting license has been $151 since 2007 and that didn't include the right to fish. With 2% inflation it should cost you $170 today, so based on my redneck comparison and my finance degree I'd say $160 is a heck of a deal.

A $160 non-res hunt/fish license is more like calling the small appliance guy to work on your dishwasher and he fixes your broken freezer for free. ;)
