This whole argument is about how expensive tags are for us in Arizona. A couple of people have posted quite plainly that arizona is higher in licenses and tag fees compared to other states. Those other states like Wyoming have just as much wildlife to manage yet they manage to do it will much less money. How does that work? Your argument about having to leave to hunt in other states or on reservations is ridiculous. I have hunted in Texas and paid around 100 bucks and was able to kill four turkeys and as many varmints and hogs as I could handle. That's out of state prices that are cheaper than in state prices here. And I would only get to kill 1 turkey here!

Obviously you and azgfd have the same attitude. . If they want to hunt they will have to pay whatever we say they will pay and if they don't like it they can just quit hunting. Well guess what? There are already a lot of guys not putting in and we will lose them and their kids that would have been hunters. As they raise them and raise them more and more people will stop. Which is what you want it sounds like. As long as your odds are better to get a tag screw everyone else.

Bonecollector777 , I don't want anyone to get priced out. On the flip side of things I at least understand that there isn't anything in this world that doesn't go up price wise on almost a yearly basis. I also would be willing to bet that some of the people on here complaining about the prices are Also people that are upgrading their Swarovski old school 15 power binos for the new hd version, and willing to pay that much more for a 10 percent increase in quality and that diff is hundreds of dollars. If it isn't binos its some other peace of their gear that has to be upgraded to stay competitive in this game we all like to play. With that being said a raise of a reasonable amount could be easily justified. Somehow it's not though , but we are all willing to pay thousands and thousands for gear to garnish afield. This doesn't make sense to me at all. For the ones that this analogy doesn't fit , which is few , and are priced out by the increase then I must admit that sucks however you spin it. I've had times in the past when I barely had enough money to put in but I manage to sell something else or do whatever it takes to make sure I'm in for the draw. I would rather carry k mart special binos in the fieldand have to sell my swaros to go hunting another year then miss out. I would sell one of my favorite trophies to get the money to keep hunting,that's just me though. If price increases end up weeding someone out then I guess that's just reality, but it has nothing to with me wanting anyone to be left out.

I'm not going to defend price increases because I think it absolutely crazy, BUT the problem Az has is that 1. We are the largest state in population (excluding CA) in the west and 2. We have the least amount of wildlife resources. Those are the two reasons IMO we can not be compared to the other states with lower resident fees. Add to it that Az has managed for some of the best trophy animals in the country and supply and demand has a greater difference in proportion any other western state..

I believe there is waste and I'm not condoning price increases I'm just stating my opinion on why it may be justified to have higher prices than other western states.

I will explain how it works.

 

Simple supply and demand. If there is a finite supply of a resource and a very high demand, then in a free market the price goes up.

Additionally, the numbers comparing other western states are misleading. The population of Wyoming that has "just as much wildlife to manage" as Arizona is approximately 568,158 (July 2011, US Census Bureau). Compare that to the population of Tucson being 525,796 (July 2011, US Census Bureau).

 

Now, where do you think there is more resident demand?

 

The numbers actually indicate that our prices could be MUCH higher, yet, AZGFD raised prices for the first time in years this last year.
