Desert buck down

Recommended Posts

Last year my wife bought me a new bow for our anniversary so I decided to not get a rifle tag and try to get it done with my bow. January 2013 had a really close encounter with a 100 inch white tail but I drew back too late and he bolted out of there. With no luck in January I decided to hunt Aug Sep for the first time and probably the last! It was muggy hot as s***! So then Dec came around and my time was limited with no more vacation time and holidays are just nuts @ work. First day I put a couple of stocks with no success. Next day I was excited since my cousin Gabe was going to be hunting with me. We rarely get to hunt together since I'm usually off during the week and he's off on weekends. My cousin spotted a couple of bucks but the wind just wasn't right. Right after I spotted a big buck go over a hill so we decided to put a stock on him! We needed to move to get a better angle since the buck went over the hill we couldn't see him no more. When we were stocking I saw another group of deer and saw a small buck in the group. My expectations were low and just wanted some meat in the freezer, so I told my cousin lets go after this one! When we were starting to get closer the deer started to get nervous so I told my cousin to range and he said 93 yards. I aimed and focused on my level being straight and I let the arrow fly. And the nice sound of thwack! The deer ran about 40 yards straight down to us and crashed. I was so excited I had just connected on the farthest shot I had ever attempted! We were a little over 2 miles from the truck I knew it was going to be a long haul! My cousin had a frame so we put the deer on there and tied it all up into a ball and my cousin carried him whole all the way back to the truck. This guy is a beast! I can't thank my cousin Gabe enough for putting me right in front of the deer and carrying the deer all the way back to the truck. Thank you brother! January 2014 had 2 weeks of vacation to try to get it done. First we started with a trip to Mexico on a coues deer hunt. Long story short we were unsuccessful but was a great experience and had a good time. As soon as we got back I took the morning off the next day and was.back out the afternoon. My best friend Ricardo was able to get off work early so he was able to go with me. We saw a couple of good bucks and busted on one stock with no success. Next day in the morning I went to check on a different spot for whitetail. Bucks were starting to cruise around the does but still not chasing. Saw 4 bucks one 80 incher and the other about a 90. So I decided to go back in the afternoon and chase mulies. The wind picked up saw very little.deer with only one spike. The next day my little sister was going to be going with me. I was hoping to make it happen since every time she goes with me we have been unsuccessful. Put on a couple of stocks in the morning one @ 35 yards and the other @ 80 with no shot due to it being so thick with ocotillos. I was frustrated after putting a couple of close stocks and not being able to let an arrow fly, but thats part of the game. We decided to get down into a wash and take a nap and then get back at it in the afternoon. As we were walking I saw 2 does come out I ranged @ 95 yards then more does came out and then I saw a forkie. I was thinking to my self that there was no way a forkie was pushing all those does when the big boy stepped out. I drew back and let the arrow fly and thwack ! The deer ran down into a wash and never saw him come out. We immediately walked over to where I shot to find no blood! I was so sick to my stomach thinking about a deer taking off wounded. I knew he was in the wash since I never saw him come out. We were walking slow on the side of the wash when my sister sneezed and I heard the deer kicking close by. Then I saw him and finished him off with another arrow @ 50 yards. When I got up to the deer I saw that my first shot was low breaking the leg right at the elbow and the deer antlers were stuck in between a mesquite tree. Thank god for giving me.the opportunity to be out there and enjoying what I like best! Sorry for the long post. Hope you enjoy...post-6723-0-50697300-1389281120_thumb.jpgpost-6723-0-68158700-1389281600_thumb.jpgpost-6723-0-68158700-1389281600_thumb.jpg
