4mainbeam Report post Posted January 3, 2014 Hi all, I think this is my first post and I regret having to use it to ask this dreaded question. (I do have a bunch of specific coues hunting questions, but I will have to get to those later). My brother is in the army and thus has not been able to go hunting with my dad and I in years because we can't plan anything with him in advance. Well it looks like he will be on his "block leave" during the rifle javelina season this year. I asked him if he wanted to do it and he got pretty excited about it. I am from NM and have hunted AZ twice for Javelina (Unit 27 first and then 28 second). We managed to find a few both times, but I am not very good at finding them. I still have never found some by glassing. Anyway...to the question: Which unit should we pickup leftover tags for? First goal would be to find a javelina for my brother Second goal would be to learn a unit to hunt coues in the future. I really need to start buying a leftover deer tag and hunt yearly in AZ. As far as my ideal coues unit goes, I would (since I am starting from scratch and just throwing a dart at the board) prefer an open desert type terrain that is very glassable. Good access, but lots of roadless area to hike into. And, of course, giant deer on every ridge ! Thanks, Danny Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
