First day Smiles

Recommended Posts

Waited all year for 1Jan2014, first day in the Santa Ritas with recurve and tags in my pocket. Awake at 1;00am, Hiked-in at 5;30am to be set in brush-blind, yeah alittle early.... At 9;00am a small, thin horned 3x3 came up Canyon at 40yards... Nice... a few minites later at semi-thick, large main-beamed, short(3-4inch) tine length Coues, REAL NICE...

He came in straight at me, I have the Bow up and ready to draw when he turns... he doesnt turn, but stops with-in feet of me and realises somethings NOT NICE, but he isnt looking at me and he doesnt spook as he turns and walks off....

Checked an area around 1;00pm, heavy cover, really steep, worked it from the top-down going slow and stopping the over-look cut. Sat down to water-up and have a cig... A small 2x2 came down canyon and passed me at 15-20yards...(Crazy heavy bear scat in this cut)

I was smileing enough just being back hunting with the recurve, but three Bucks, a nice buck close-up made for an outstanding day...

Good Luck All...

Awesome,

is the pic taken on the fence line, that goes by a mine shaft?

No fences around here...

AzLance, not many earth-muffins seen there lately, bird watchers and sun-drenched snow-birds who bit off more then then their legs can carry though...

Photo is below Kent Springs drainage looking west toward GV... That drainage has more bear scat then I've ever seen in one area...

Always wanted to hunt that area...what's the story with no hunting? Is that just for around the picnic area and lower hiking trails?

Great pictures and thanks for taking us along on your opening day. You already have had a successful hunt seeing them deer. I hope you get to use your tag and make it even better. Good luck! :)
