SC Rez 2014-15 Non-Member Coues Lottery Draw

Recommended Posts

I know there are limited tags for these hunts but for this kind of money why not just put in for left over tags down south and scout I know it's easier to kill a buck on these hunts because of less pressure,I have never seen a giant killed on

these hunts other then the natives you can kill a 100 inch buck in units 29 to 36 units pretty easy in oct.nov or dec.if you scout so why all the fuss just asking not trying to piss anyone off

but other then a extra chance to hunt why do it.Heck Snapshot kills them with a recurve, so why do so many people want this tag?

You've never seen a giant killed on the San Carlos by a non member? I've seen A LOT! My problem is for that kind of cash why not just do Mexico? Mexico is unreal. It's Disneyland for coues deer hunters. I would love to hunt the San Carlos, but for the money Old Mexico is a no brainer imho.

You only pay the application fee when you enter, if drawn you will have 2 weeks to purchase your tag(s), deadline to purchase is Lover's Day at 4pm.

If you want to send in your application fee along with your application, instead of credit card info, then it would have to be a money order or personal check, the application fee is $25, so with tax it comes to an even $26 bucks per applicant.

Bear tags will still be OTC sales, the same goes for Turkey and Javelina tags.

I have a few things to point out and i'm only speaking about the non tribal hunt. The november hunt on the res. is no different or special than any october hunt in az in just about any unit. This is a tough hunt and a buck in the low 80s to upper 80s is a realistic expectation with 7 days of hunting required to do so. The january hunt is still tough and i would take a december tag in any decent to good unit on state land over any unit on the san carlos. The january hunt is a hunt for a low to upper 90s buck if 7 or so days are spent hunting. While there are some pretty good bucks on the san carlos, there probably isn't a place in az with a higher lion density. I speak from a ton of experience both on the november hunts and january hunts from going with friends and family over the last 12 years or so. I can guarantee that out of the 75 january tags available for non tribal members, there will be less than 4 bucks that break the 110 barrier and 90 percent of the bucks will be under 100 inches or less. Beautiful country of course, but the juice isnt worth the squeeze unless you get lucky. 2000 spent on gas and scouting any reputable unit in az for a october hunt could very easily yield the same results as a january tag on the san carlos if not exceed. Maybe if someone hired a guide on top of the 2000 then the results would be higher by an average of 5 inches , but the guide would be another 2500 bucks. Mexico begins to smell much better after putting all this in perspective. Again the san carlos is a wonderful place but it's far from being filled with giants like some might think. To put it in perspective i spent 22 days straight 2 years ago in january , and last year i spent 19 days straight in january. In 41 days of pure rutting activity between 2 years of pounding the january dates, i saw 2 bucks that might go 110 or so , with 90 percent of mature bucks being around 90 to 95 max. just my 2 cents.
