Coach Report post Posted December 23, 2013 Given the Campfire is a great way to clear the air and sometimes discuss topics a little off-topic from a hunter's perspective. I started today 4:00 am going into an area I haven't been in 20 years - let's just say it was just as I remembered it. I saw lots of deer, one "bomber" buck, no good stalks. So I head home and we get a movie to watch as a family. I'll spare you the title, doesn't matter. Is it just me, or is every single movie out these days just little bits and pieces of every other movie out there spliced together? I'm just like the next guy who just wants to share a little entertainment with the family, but I find myself constantly distracted by noticing every scene, every dialog is perjered from another, previously successful movie. Probably a belabored point, but it seems to me as a statement that even the arts, the vast money in the entertainment industry can't produce one creative story - one new plot, not even one new hero. Having grown up in the 60's as a teenager and seeing many of those actual events firsthand of and explaining them to my son like the guy who ran across the US, the GI and his GF on the mall was pretty cool. elpepe25 Report post Posted December 24, 2013 When I was a kid you could go to a theater and view a movie that actually had a plot-told a story, and be out in an hour and a half. Coach Report post Posted December 25, 2013 Ok, since I started this topic on a negative note, and you guys fixed that by turning it positive - pointing out movies that don't suck, I'll add some recent flicks that have been better than I expected. Crazy Stupid Love, Dinner for Schmucks, Act of Valor, 3:10 to Yuma. For less contemporary flix, I really like Open Range, Legends of the Fall, A River Runs Through It, going back a little, The Outlaw Josey Wales, Jeremiah Johnson. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
AZ8 Report post Posted December 25, 2013 Problem with Hollywood today is the reliance of CGI to make movies. No one acts anymore. Throw a couple people in front of a green screen, have them read some lines and then let the computer do the work. Way too much CGI today. For example, we're watching "Its a Wonderful Life" tonight. MULEPACKHUNTER Report post Posted December 25, 2013 great point on the cgi effects. here is a small list of great features, we dont have television at our house by choice but we do watch movies and have quite te collection building. the comencheros , hondo, celtic thunder christmas, the best of the cosby show, the searchers, the original true grit, the cowboys, shoot to kill, man from snowy river, into the wild, grumpy old men. amazon.com can save you from mainstream movie madness, i havent been in a theater for 4 years and havent had television for longer, lost 50 lbs and am much happier Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
