Shipping processed game

Recommended Posts

Looking for suggestions on how to get my processed elk back from AZ. I few with the steaks and roast using dry ice as I have in the past, just checked it as baggage in a cooler. I've also shipped elk from Montana but it cost me an arm and a leg, could have flow back and checked it for half the cost of overnight shipping.

My buddy has it in his freezer now so it's fine and back and picked up from the processor but I would much rather be enjoying it than writing about it.

Whether you ship it, make a flight and pick it up yourself, or drive down and get it, your still gonna spend a bunch of money. So why spend money when you can make money? Here's what you do, have your friend sell a bunch of the meat and with the profits you can pay to ship the little bit of good meat you want, back straps, some steaks, maybe a little burger. Keep 15 or 20 lbs for yourself and sell the rest.

I would look into freight flights.

Depending on what airport and airline companies are there your friend can drop off a cooler at the freight shipping office, and you can pick it up at the freight shipping office. It will be an overnight flight but usually a 1/3 of FedEx, UPS, DHL and any other company.

Usually the best deal for moving heavy items with airport availability.

/>Isnt it illegal to sell game meat.
I think you're right, it usually is unless it was pen or farm raised and processed for commercial sale and use.

Might depend on the state though.

Your the man, spot on with the suggestion. The last time I used FedEx it was around $300.00+ for overnight. I did a quick search while at work via SW Airline and looks to be around $80.00. I greatly appreciate the tip, thank you. Still need to do a little more research but thanks again for the direction.
