couesmagnet Report post Posted December 31, 2013 Both D units hold some pretty nice deer . it's beautiful country, and i would agree with apache7mm and hoss that there are some hidden treasures in D. Good starting point would be goat camp at the base of mt turnbull. World record non typical coues was taken there many years ago. apache 7mm or hoss might want to look on those flats on the left hand side of the road that goes to goat camp right before you get there, we've seen a couple high 180s mule deer bucks there over the years. D is a great unit in my opinion.
deadheads Report post Posted January 23, 2014 Update on our hunt...First off, THANKS to all of you for your suggestions and thoughts! Met some great guys who were very helpful and had a genuine interest in helping us be successful! We didn't kill but saw a lot of great looking Coues country and had a good time learning new country. For me thats half the hunt, just getting out and seeing new country and exploring it to see what it might hold. And in most cases it didn't hold much, we were surprised on the lack of game in great looking habitat. But isn't that the nature of these great little deer. Loving to live in isolated pockets. We found nice bucks but couldn't find anything over a 100''. Looking forward to the draw to see if we'll be chasing the ghost again next year.
Cowman Report post Posted January 25, 2014 Deadheads we too had a great time this year on the San Carlos but also did not harvest. I hunted 11 days and never saw a 100' buck. Beautiful remote country, but couldn't find a shooter.
