SWDesertRat - Respectfully, since you mentioned high school, do you remember those kids in high school that always went against the grain just to stand out? You know, those kids that thought they were cool by pretending to not care but really they always did and threw their two cents in whenever they could. Well you got me, wasnt trying to be negative just sharing my opinion since everyone else was tossing theirs nto the circle. Im not the type to beat around the bush and I dont take myself too seriously, but I also respect others opinions and wasnt trying to rain on them, just didnt understand all the ruckus for a tv show.

From a perspective standpoint I honestly never saw that show until a family member was in the hospital recently and I watched it. I didnt see the appeal for such a following but then again I only saw an episode. i know guys that like the show and quote from it all the time but the quotes are lost on me. Where's Lark to add some insight on something like this..?

I stand by my previous statement about reality tv though, I think if folks stopped feeding the beast of shows and ratings and the producers that make them less crap would end up on tv, but heck what do I know?

I appreciate your opinion tho and will keep doing whatever scrolling or commenting i feel is appropriate.

I went 28 years without a haircut, so one year without a shave should be a walk in the park! I have not had cable tv for ten years, and I have never seen the program, but I don't like hearing about anyone being bullied for standing up for their beliefs in God, family, or guns. My shaver is going into serious black bear hibernation mode!

You can "Boycott" all you want, unless you're a Nielsen Household, you will have little to zero impact on actual ratings. The only thing that has a chance of making an impact is the Robertson's refusing to continue the show without Phil. A&E would lose one of the highest rated shows of all time. That effects the bottom line and ultimately the only thing they care about.

The boycott would be of the shows sponsors, not A&E. Although DD is the only show on that network that anyone watches.

I don't know American Thunder.... since the FB boycott started yesterday the official "boycott" fb page grew to 1.5 million likes/followers and still rapidly growing. In addition there was a DD marathon on last night and since the boycott number of viewers of the show dropped 6.364 million and ratings dropped 71.6 % for the show already. I didn't watch and further... I removed it from my Record list on direct tv so episodes won't record. Robertson's already stated they won't continue the show unless Phil is involved... so either A&E has to bend.. or the show is done. Personally I wish the robertsons would just ditch a&e... another network would pick them up no prob.

I am not saying you're wrong, but a drop of 71.6% in ratings sounds crazy high. Where did you hear that? Also, the fact that it was a marathon of repeats obviously had to have played a large role in the drop of ratings vs a new episode. Even going after their advertising is only affected by Nielsen households. Unless you are a part of this survey group, they have no way of tracking your viewing habits DVR or no DVR. I can see the arguement that a FB group of over 1 Million+ people certainly sends a message, but ultimately I have to believe it is of little concern to a television company.

Thunder... the page that got over a million likes in less than 24hrs posted the ratings results... I'm sure they researched it rather than guessing as they have quite a bit at stake and are obviously pretty serious about putting a dent in A&E. I don't know how all the ratings are calculated but apparently it already affected them. Not just that but all the DD garbage you see in walmart, dicks, and other stores... people are quitting buying all that stuff as well as A&E owns the DD brand. so I'm sure they are/will take a hit financially and with ratings. I didn't realize you have to be a Nielson household... I thought they had other ways to calculate ratings - my bad. At this point A&E needs to cave or the show is over based on the Robertson's family statement about the issue... just my guess anyway. I hope A&E takes a massive hit for being complete morons.

 

Behind all of that though... and IMO, the gay community has been portrayed as super weak by the way they over-reacted to one mans beliefs. The fact that they immediately were up in arms and called for censorship of Phil just goes to show who they really are. How Un-American is that?? To call for silencing a man because he holds different beliefs than you. WTH... If you don't like what he said just don't ever watch his show again... pretty simple. I see stuff/hear stuff all the time I don't like or agree with but I wouldn't think of demanding they be removed from TV or Radio. Just goes to show what a bunch of drama queens they are... In addition, Mr. Robertson did not use any type of slur... he simply answered a question and stated his beliefs. If anyone has been discriminated against it is Phil for being fired/suspended from his job. It's obvious A&E leadership as well as the gay community are a bunch of panty waste, politically correct, liberal push-overs. There ya have it. Just my thoughts
