You know what helps me keep my eyes in the glass? I keep reminding myself that these are not mythical creatures. They do exist and they're pretty much everywhere. They have to get up and eat, they have to get up and attain moisture or water to keep going. I am new to the game as well, but I seem to have no problem spotting deer- even when they're way out there and bedded- and I do it with a cheaper spotting scope and a pair of good Nikon 10x50's. The key is having that confidence that you WILL see them eventually, you just have to pay your dues and keep your eyes in the glass. Once you spot that first group of does, look at what they're doing, look at what they're eating, and look where they came from... because the bucks are doing the same thing often in thicker, higher spots where they aren't as accessible as their female companions. Heck, the does gave away that spike buck I shot a few days ago every time I saw him for three days... because all of the does kept looking straight uphill a few hundred yards for him.

The picture of the aircraft is hard to see but it looks like a C130. Most likely out of DM in Tucson. The fly training routes out that way on a regular basis.

p.s. Andrew, For glassing, get some good glass and I like the eye - cups that shield your eyes from the sun. 15 X 56's with a tripod are great for picking out deer. A good comfortable chair to sit in is important to me. I also take a good butt pad for the chair, or if I find a good place to sit on ground or a rock. Plus it comes in handy for knee's while you tend to your deer! Good luck next time!

Andrew, that was a great write up. I would like to see your spin on the elk hunt you helped us on and really look forward to your take on the upcoming javelina hunt. Really want to see you take one. JLG.

Andrew,

It was great to see this! I'm glad that you had a good time and enjoyed the hunt. I definitely had a great time stalking the bucks with you. Still see those bucks we were sitting on in my dreams! It was an honor to be there when you took the shot! I'm sure I had almost as much fun as you did!

Good luck on your javelina hunt with John! I wish I was going on that too!
