anthonyrmatthews Report post Posted January 24, 2014 I busted a herd at 27 yards so I just made distress sounds with my mouth and they came to within 5 feet of me. That was fun!
hoghntr Report post Posted January 25, 2014 />So you can use electronic calls for javelin in AZ? I know, dumb question based on what's already been said in this topic, but I had to ask just to make sure. As far as i know electronic calls legal for all 4 legged critters in AZ i dont know about migratory birds... but no record book entry aloud if electronics used to harvest.. now not sure where line is drawn with electronic calls-radios-phones-lighted nocks on arrows-gps, heck if get technical we all use some form of electronics in order to harvest so good luck deciphering the rules. down2hunt Report post Posted January 25, 2014 ++1 on the Javelina Hunter J13. My son had his jr. javelina hunt today and after his shot I blow on the J13 and it called in 2 mad pigs charging within 1 foot from us. Exciting and scary all at the same time. And my son harvested his 1st Javi. JD

coatimundi01 Report post Posted January 25, 2014 I have the Modern Call Products javelina call. I like that they're based right here in AZ in Buckeye. I've used it twice on pigs, first time was a single boar running 20 yards off the road. Hopped out, grabbed my bow, and tried the call. Kept running, didn't want anything to do with it. The second time was when we walked up on a herd. They got spooked and started trotting off and we grunted and wailed on the call. They stopped, we blew on the call again, and they came running and grunting right back to us. Talk about exciting! Shot my pig at 10 yards, what a rush! I think it worked better on the herd rather than the single pig due to they probably feel safer in numbers to come in and investigate/protect the 'hurt pig' that they think they hear. khmer6 Report post Posted January 25, 2014 They work better on a group of pigs. Lone boars will haul arse from what I've seen. Even doubles will take off most times. It's all really a crapshoot. Electronic calls are illegal for pretty much of edible creatures including doves and watwrfowl.
azslim Report post Posted January 25, 2014 calls don't work so well with a small number of pigs, I've tried them on 4 or 5 and they high tail it, tried on bigger herds and they run right to you, especially if there are any reds in the herd. Keep your calls handy whenever you are out, let the animals tell you when you are making the right noise, then come hunting time you have your act together. Just remember to spit out your call before drawing your bow, can't anchor with a call in your mouth and a huge boar running at you like a P.O.'d rotweiller. randyolson Report post Posted February 3, 2014 My 2 cents: To answer the original question possibly on the cotton tail call. Something to consider, if there are more jack rabbits in the area (or vise versa) where you are using the call then I wouldn't use the cotton tail call. I usually don't have as good of luck! I am not a professional when it comes to calling, but the calling I have done, I have found that you have better luck using the specific species call indigenous to the area. There is a difference in the pitch!! Hope this helps! Good Luck!!
Norteno Report post Posted February 4, 2014 I picked up the J13 original at Archery Headquarters. Been practicing but for the life of me can't make it sound like the audio clip. Sounds more like Donald Duck in distress. I'll keep practicing though until I go deaf.
