DesertBull Report post Posted December 9, 2013 If you have an old Savage bolt action laying around I am interested. Don't care about the condition of stock or barrel, don't need or want a scope or bases on it. I am only using the action. Prefer something in the .308 family but an 06 / 7 mag family would be considered. Prefer something old or beat up ( aka not an expensive newer model. )
mattys281 Report post Posted December 9, 2013 Sounds like somebody's starting a fun project. What kind of barrel are you going to use?
DesertBull Report post Posted December 9, 2013 Don't know yet. criterion, McGowen or Brux most likely. I have a. 7 mag now with a heavy. 28" barrel and a HS stock. Shoots great and weight is not a huge factor but Want something a little more packable. Maybe a 308 or 300wsm with a foldable stock.
mattys281 Report post Posted December 9, 2013 Ever hear of bartlein barrels? I'm not real familiar with what is and isn't a good match grade barrel but saw these on the grizzly industrial website. Its $375 for a 31" barrel. Was thinking about swapping out the barrel on my mauser. The action is good and its had some trigger work done so it pulls real nice but doesn't group that well. Of course it could just be that I'm a piss poor shot with a rifle.
pwrguy Report post Posted December 9, 2013 I have one in .308 that I will be putting up for sale here shortly, I just haven't gotten around to taking the scope and base off it. Unfortunately it is a servicealble rifle with a 26 inch stainless fluted bull barrell, and stainless action, and I am going to ask around $700.00 for it. It is a heavy right handed rifle and I have purchased a lighter left handed rifle to replace it with. You shouldn't have that difficult a time finding an action, if you do, just buy a bottom end rifle off the shelf and start from there?
DesertBull Report post Posted December 9, 2013 Yeah that is what I was thinking too but thought maybe someone one in their closet gathering dust. I would take a lh also. Left eye dominate.

Lefty's are kind of hard to come by cheap. I just broke down and bought a brand new one, that is why I will need to sell the right handed one. I figured I would shoot it for a year or 2 and maybe customize it later if I like it. I have a nice custom long range gun, and want this one for an easy-to-carry, backpacking, varmit killing gun. dalbo413 Report post Posted December 10, 2013 I have a stalled project action I may be willing to part with for 200. It's a flat back 110 action, mag bolthead, factory trigger, lug and barrel nut. Bluing is about 70%.
