creed Report post Posted December 9, 2013 Any of you unit 42 deer hunters know what is going on at the south end of the Vultures near the Black Butte? I was up there today looking around for the muzzy hunt. They are setting up some kind of construction office and are pushing a road right through my deer hunting camp. There is a well rig and another road to the north of there a mile or so about a half mile from a G&F drinker and survey stakes over maybe 4-6 square miles. I have been hunting that area since the 70's and it is hard to see it

AZ8 Report post Posted December 9, 2013 Might be that new Maricopa county regional park that's been in the pipeline: Vulture Mountains Regional Park. http://www.wickenburgchamber.com/nw-valley-land-will-shape-into-recreation-area/ http://www.maricopa.gov/parks/vulturemtn.aspx
donniedent Report post Posted December 10, 2013 Sounds like that park will be centered around the northern part of the vultures. The area Bruce is talking about is a good piece from there. It's all bound to be absorbed into the county Park system eventually. Then they will also try and shut us out at some point too.
creed Report post Posted December 10, 2013 Donnie, I have exchanged emails with a person that should know that suspects it may be part of either a new mine or the expansion of an existing mine. The existing mine in that area has shut down access across the mountains and I am afraid that will be the case now. If the current trend holds there will be loss of access through the area and because of perceived dangers from firearms this whole area will be closed down to the public. My orginal thoughts were that it would cover a 4-5 square mile area but after more thought the number of survey stakes could mean nearly double that. It makes me sick to see it but obviously it is going to happen and happen soon.

donniedent Report post Posted December 11, 2013 Well I know you treasure that area Bruce and I'm sorry to see it happen. Seems like we're always trying to find a new area to get away from the crowds or development. Just sucks
