MattM Report post Posted June 26, 2004 (edited) I have been lurking and learning here for about a year but after seeing Backcountry's post I had to ask. I found this shed about 2 years ago and just thought it was a muley. It has 1 obvious main beam, G1, G2 and eye guard. I still think its a 3 pt muley but thought I would ask. Thanks Matt www.hunt101.com/img/186229.jpg www.hunt101.com/img/186230.jpg Edit - couldn't get the pic to post, copy and paste addy? Guest Ernesto C Report post Posted June 26, 2004 MattM first let me say ....welcome!! to the most magnificent hunting site (thanks Amanda) Now let me ask you,in what unit did you find that shed? It was in the low country where coues and muleys live together? Or it was in the high country where only coues live? That may give you the answer;because the antlers of a small 3 point muley will look like a coues antler but a big mature 3 point muley antler will not look like a coues antler. I have a 3 point antler shed at home and every body swears that is a coues antler but everybody is wrong because where I found this shed, historically there's never being a coues (unit 45 C) so I know is a muley shed. So please tell us where you find it and we may give you an acurate answer. To me is a muley shed that looks like a coues antler Welcome and God bless you. Ernesto C. CouesWhitetail Report post Posted June 26, 2004 Here are your pics. You have to click the IMG button when you post. Enter the address in that section when prompted. Make sure you include the http:// part of it. Your shed sure looks like a 3 pt muley. Amanda
Red Rabbit Report post Posted June 27, 2004 Matt, welcome. I vote for the muley drop, considering the lack of eyeguards and long G-2. Doug/RedRabbit
Rembrant Report post Posted June 27, 2004 I concur with Doug and would add that a Coues antler with that kind of length would have considerably more mass. Mike
Guest Guest Report post Posted June 28, 2004 It was found in unit 22 between SR87 and the Salt River. I know this is mostly desert mule deer territory but... I have worked the area for 7 years and have personally seen and removed two white tail deer from SR 87 that were struck by cars. Both of these deer were hit south of bush highway and north of shea blvd. Both also weighed in at about 80 lbs. and were a little taller than an average rottie. I also moved (rolled) an 200 black bear of the same SR87 at MP 200 near the bush highway turn off. Got pics of that at work. Most dont believe me but you can check out my hunting pics page, I know the difference between the two deer. FWIW I think its a mule deer shed. Thanks for the welcome and thank you Amanda for a great site.
Idahocoueshunter Report post Posted July 12, 2004 I agree, looks like a mulie shed to me too. A coues of that calibre would surely have better eyeguards. I have a neighbor who thinks he killed a cross deer because it had a three point rack, appearing to come off the main beam, with a small eyeguards, and the body of a mule deer. Debate would have been futile, so I hear the story often.
