ready2hunt Report post Posted November 29, 2013 Just picked up my bear skull today. The rough score is 21 inches even, (2 & 10/16") off the world record! I attached a couple of pics. The 3rd pic is my skull compared to a smaller one in the taxidermy office. The taxidermist says it shows the age and character. It's my first bear so I would not have known the difference but perhaps some of you can appreciate. This ol' boy had cracked teeth and a deformed skull, my guess is he was happy to give up the ghost. Any official measures out there want to take a measurement?

ready2hunt Report post Posted November 30, 2013 Wow. What did G&F age the bear? They estimate it at around 18yrs old but said I'll get the official results around march of next year. He was on his last leg though....he had very little fat on him and I shot him end of oct. he was likely surviving on grubs

kidso Report post Posted November 30, 2013 A 21 inch bear skull is like a 400 inch bull antler score. Welcome to the addiction! You will be chasing that score the rest of your life.
ready2hunt Report post Posted November 30, 2013 A 21 inch bear skull is like a 400 inch bull antler score. Welcome to the addiction! You will be chasing that score the rest of your life. I could not have said it better myself- about the addiction. I am looking forward to bear season more than I am elk season now. I just bought a foxpro and hope I can lure another one in next year. What do you normally use as your call, you seem to have some great success kidso. If you don't mind me asking of course.
kidso Report post Posted November 30, 2013 I am an old-school purist and use nothing but hand calls. It adds an extra element when calling predators to know that "you" called it in yourself --especially if it is a bear or lion-- without the use of an electronic device. Plus, the continued use of hand calls has saved me $500 bucks!!
THOR Report post Posted December 1, 2013 I have called in multiple bears while Elk hunting using a Hyper Hot Elk call. I was surprised the first time but It works. just go nuts on it like a varmint call.
