azffhunter Report post Posted November 27, 2013 I just purchased an AR-15 and was thinking about using it for predator hunting. I know that some people use this .223 platform, but I would love to hear from some of you that are more experienced than I. Of course I know shot placement with any game is key, but I would like to know your opinions and projectile suggestions you may have. Thanks in advance for any input you can offer. Happy holidays and safe hunting to all!!!

elpepe25 Report post Posted November 27, 2013 50 gr. TNT, 55 Vmax or nos BT, or 60 gr. Nos BT. Find out what works for you but these are good starts. I've had luck with all those listed, my gun likes the 60 gr. Nos BT, but it's a 1:8 twist. Good luck
firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted November 28, 2013 Mine Is A 1:8 As Well..... I liked The 68Gr Hornady Bthp. Shot Great, Killed Well But Animals Ran, Pouring Blood But Still Ran.
chrismp51 Report post Posted November 28, 2013 If you want to keep fur, the only bullet I have had luck with in .223 is a spire point from hornady. The vmax leaves huge holes and wounded animals. I have moved on to a .17 Remington for all predator hunting, tiny hole, rarely an exit, and everything drops dead.
Scooter Report post Posted November 29, 2013 I use a Hornady 55gr SP... At ~2850fps it is mild, but does pretty well out of my single shot 1:10 twist. Haven't torn one up yet that couldn't be repaired.
