tankeraz Report post Posted November 24, 2013 I know this is a lazy question but can you chase coyotes with hounds in this state?
Couzer Report post Posted November 25, 2013 Have a friend that used a mountain cur when he lived here a few years back, I believe it's called doggin coyotes, or that's what he called it. Works really well
muledeerarea33? Report post Posted November 25, 2013 My dogs always warn me if coyotes are within 500 yards of the house. I shoot them when I can. One time they chased our cat onto the porch and my dogs (30 pounds tops!) ran up on the coyotes and tore them up!! Surprised the heck out of me! I ended up shooting one and they got the other two. So yeah, dogs do good for coyotes!
PRDATR Report post Posted November 25, 2013 I'm not sure of the legality of it here in AZ but I have seen websites where people post pics all the time. I would thing a couple of Grayhounds would be the ticket. Just make sure your dogs are up on their shots and dust them so they don't get fleas.
JLW Report post Posted November 25, 2013 most people use dogs to entice them to come to the call. the videos I've seen they use smaller dogs so the coyotes feel they can whoop em up and they are lured back to the caller and get whacked. James
loco4coues Report post Posted November 25, 2013 I saw a video a few years back of a guy who trained grey hounds to chase them down. The dogs killed the coyotes when they caught them.

scoutm Report post Posted November 25, 2013 most people use dogs to entice them to come to the call. I was watching a Fox Pro show a week or so ago and they were doing just that in Utah. It was the craziest thing. They would hit a siren (yes a siren like a police car) and if a coyote responded they would setup and send the dogs out to the coyote and the dogs would walk the coyotes into the stand. The dogs never really challenged the coyotes they would get just close enough to get the coyote to want to chase the dog off pulling them straight to the stand. At $50 bucks a coyote in Utah they paid for their gas, lunch and a pitcher of beer. Not to shabby of a day.
JLW Report post Posted November 25, 2013 Here is the link to the story:http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/26/sports/26greyhounds.html?_r=0 that's a cool story! sounds like a load of fun to me!. my favorite line: “The government spends thousands of dollars trying to kill coyotes every year,” he said, grinning. “I do it for free.” I would think that number in the hundreds of thousands.
