swwildlife Report post Posted November 18, 2013 You may or may not know the Game and Fish issued a new rule this year in an effort to stop the transmission of CWD into Arizona. This new rule stated that you can NOT bring the unprocessed skull, carcass, or parts of unprocessed animal into Arizona. THIS IS NOT TRUE. after all the news releases they amended it to allowing you to bring a raw untreated animal back into the state IF it was taken directly to a licensed taxidermist or meat processor. This has effected my business and a few other meat processors that I know. I contacted the G&F and their response was "Oh well, we tried to get the word out the best we could, but you can't hold everyone's hand" The problem I have with it is that if you get on their website there is only 1 release that states you can bring out of state animals back and and about 4 releases that state no way. So what I'm trying to tell everyone is, If you want to use your local taxidermist or meat processor, you can. There are no restrictions. Please bring your out of state animals home and support your local economy! Jim
IA Born Report post Posted November 18, 2013 Good post! I had to call and check because I was supposed to take my daughter to Texas deer hunting next week. TX law says absolutely no deboning and head MUST accompany. All of this is contrary to AZ regs. I called a few friends over at AGFD and raised all kinds of questions as to the science of the regs. I was told the same thing you posted after I asked a some real solid science-based questions!
Becker Report post Posted November 18, 2013 I called right after I got a letter stating the new rules about importing wildlife and got transferred to some guy. This was before they went back on it, and I asked him some in depth questions about it. Then I asked him, because I had a customer going elk hunting in new mexico that was really wanting a european, how in depth the cleaning had to be. Basically if he boils it out at what point do you guys say its good enough. He said you cant bring the whole skull. Has to be skull caped and clean white bone!!! I asked him to read out loud to me what he was looking at and a little ways in he says, OH I guess you can bring skulls as long as they are clean! It drives me nuts that they cant all be on the same page about things. Call 5 different people and get 5 different answers. Especially on the new things that they try and impose that are pretty involved such as this.

IA Born Report post Posted November 18, 2013 this is a knee jerk reaction that was not thought out. all based on what if's That was basically the response I was given when I started asking the biology questions. As a wildlife biologist and Federal agent, breaking the rules is not an option, but I seriously questioned the biology of it, mainly related to the no quartering and has to be all boned out. I get the no brains and spinal cord stuff, but the rest is absolutely silly. My contacts over there (all law enforcement and biologists) understood. Glad they are figuring out common sense!!
