I set a trailer up this year a week before my archey hunt started. Then I went back to work for the week. I guess that makes me a Camp Site Terrorist... We made sure it was next to a waterhole and then dumped trash everywhere. Truth betold, Ive waited 8 years for that tag. I pidgeonholed every day of vacation I had for that hunt. Im also fortunate enough to have a buddy that let me borrow his trailer and being that I dont think my jeep or quad was going to be able to haul it up the hill the night before the hunt, I utilized my resources. I had another friend and his truck help me set up camp (Ive got great friends) the weekend before the hunt. After two months of scouting my original camp spot plan was already taken, I did what anyone would do... called the Game and Fish, The Forrest Service, the NSA, then I had the Department of Homeland Security contact the TSA who then got ahold of Obama and everything was fixed. I might of exaggerated that part, all I really did was silently swear under my breath while congratulating them on being 3 hours ahead of me, and found a new campsite.

I dont get the animosity towards fellow hunters.. heck, I wish I lived in a trailer in the woods. In my opinion (Usually induced by Shiner Bock Beer), if someone with a 452' toy hauler and 17 razers beat you to your "spot", you need a new spot anyways.

If you want to camp right next to them, do it. Just set your alarm earlier than theirs and quit bitchin.

I dont have a problem with people setting up camp the week before their hunts. We dont need anymore laws or regulations than we already do. If you want a spot get their first, first come first serve. Some people on here that are complaining also run cameras and complain when forest service take them. You cant complain about one thing and turn around and break the law yourselves.

I didn't mind the 2 week rule, that was reasonable. What we have now is absurd, and I can't believe the ammount of hunters on this forum that support this nonsense. I don't hunt with a trailer anymore but I used to. What a great option it used to be to leave it at a site, come back to work a few day's and go back up and finish a hunt. The biggest part of the problem is our growing population and the reduced ammount of places where it is legal to camp. The federal government and the tree hugging wimps that control them want to herd us all into litttle numbered camp sites where we can be branded and herded like the cattle we have become. There are millions of acres of unused forest that just cannot be accessed or there are no spur roads or pullouts that would be suitable for camping. Why do we have to put up with this BS. I promise you there are going to be cases of people that are just away from thier camp for the day scouting or hunting and are going to come back to their stuff missing. It is going to come down to having to talk someone to staying in camp to guard your sfuff while you go out hunting for the day. This is just another case of the socialism that the younger generation has come to accept, but I promise you, you won't like what is coming next.

Is the NFS going to sit on your campsite for 72 hours, to determine if they consider it abandoned? What if they drive by at the end of the third day, and don't see anyone, even if you were at your camp earlier in the 72 hour time period?

Sound like NFS could be setting themselves up for potential lawsuits.

I cant believe, that some hunters are saying they believe in the 72 hour rule. What is this world coming to? I have to just say this. the ones that are for it, sounds like you have been beat out of your campsite! I think instead of being ignorant, get up earlier and beat them to it instead of complaining, and being for it!

Mabey I came across wrong. Im not saying I agree with the NFS impounding our camps vehicles and trailers when we are out hunting. I'm just think its annoying when you drive through the woods and it looks like a dam trailer park in the middle of the week with half the camps clearly not occupied. But I guess that's what this state has come to with the large population in the valley and the easy retreats that are up north. Muzzle hunter 75 your right about getting out there first and getting your spot.

As for leaving a rig and heading into the back country weather on a quad horse or on foot. I think it's totally different than storing your trailer on the woods while you go home for multiple days. You are in the area not 100+ miles away. And yes if the NFS does start enforcing the 72 hr rule and impounding property of hunters or campers or backcountry explorers who are in the area they will have lawsuits on thier hands.

Look at it this way, one year I had a big pack trip planned for months, I headed up 5 hours from home to where a trail head was, it just so happens that on this narrow road where the trailhead is there is also camping spots that folks use, well there were 3 trailers crammed in there and no one around for 3 days. I was unable to use this area because I didn't know what they would do when my trailer was parked there in their camp when they got in so I had to go somewhere else. I came back later and ran into one of the owners and he was a cool guy but said he just stopped in to check on things and was headed back to work until next week when his kid had an elk tag so is that fair I should not be able to use this area so he could squat the spot along with 2 others who never showed up in a week? Totally not in my opinion. This is not getting there before someone or getting up earlier or anything like that plain and simple, pack your stuff and head up when its time and find a spot, squatting spots in not cool, try to be cool or I wont offer you a beer in my camp!! LOL

If you know there is only one spot to camp maybe you could un hook your trailer and drive up to your spot and see if someone is there? are your mules to out of shape to go the extra 3 miles?are you the guy that called forest service and had them all towed, if so shame on you,Do you leave your trailer at the trail head and ride off for 3-5 days how are you any different?

You guys that think this is a good rule need to wake up I live in 7 west and our law enforcement drove by camps that were here from may untell september and october and never made them move they drove buy them many many times so your 72 hour rule is crap.

Seldom Drawn,

Leaving a trailer at a trail head is no different than leaving a truck and boat trailer at the marina parking lot while you go out for a excursion on the water. Even if it is for 3-5 days.

I remember a trip my buddies and I took to Baggs Wyoming for a deer/antelope hunt. We spent hours looking at maps and Google Earth trying to find hunting and camp spots. We made the 17 hour drive up the day before the opener. When we got up to where we wanted to camp there were literally hundreds of empty campers in every nook and cranny of the area we looked at. We ended up making a 35 mile trek back down into the desert before we found a spot. Frustrating to day the least but... we didn't get there soon enough. Though dookie!

When the federal government steps in, we all lose. I would much rather have to hunt for a camp spot than have my rig towed if I'm not in it for 72 hours. I do understand the frustration but... I'd rather be frustrated than controlled.

May I also add. There's a way to make your point without name calling and stepping on a guys huevos. Show each other a little respect. We're all grown ups here. You can have a different opinion without being a jerk. 99% of the crap talking wouldn't go on if people were face to face. Don't ruin a good discussion and a great website by being an a$$h0le.

edit. Directed at the overall tone, not anyone in particular.
