coueshunter84 Report post Posted November 8, 2006 My apologies also for "hijacking " your thread. I guess that means I get classified as a goofball also. Seriously. Your in for quite the adventure getting into archery, and doing it the "right way" and to do that I guess you have to be a little off. Kind of like the rest of us. As stated above you dont need loads of money to get started. My first bow was a $25 yardsale special Bear Polar II. About 40" axle-axle with training wheels ( the first round cams). I shot it for years and actually took a doe with it back when the Jan seasons allowed that. And I was still shooting the ( cough, gag, Choke. Gasp gasp.) metal arrows. Of course with the $3 a package Wally World broadheads. And fingers no less, without a sight. And Yes I still have that whole set up. Its in the closet. I break it out every once in a while and get back to my roots, shooting instinctivly. Which is actually kind of refreshing the couple of times a year I do it. To the point where I'm actually thhinking about useing it for Javies if I draw a tag for 07. But with that said its hard not to want to upgrade after you get started. The old if it isnt broke dont fix( replace) it. is a hard rule not to break in this field. The "newest" equipment on the block is akways so very shiny and enticing. Seeing how I use all my willpower up while actually hunting I usually dont have much left to avoid the newest gadgets. As for shops. I have no idea about any in the Valley. There are several in Tucson. the one I use and another one posted by Bobbyo. There is also a couple of shop in Safford. One at Gils outdoors, and another one I cant remember. Either way you should visit as many as you can and shoot everything. The way the maunfacturers work you will have to hit many shops to see a wider variety of equipment. Each one will try and sell you on what they have. Dont let them unless it feels good to shoot. Same thing with those of us on here. We have already figured out what feels good to us, ( Hoyt for me) I really like Bowtec. but cannot stand how they feel in my hands. Same thing with Matspews . and PSE. Nothing wrong with them, they just suck. err. dont feel good in my hands. LOL.. So go and may the force be with you. Good luck on your endeavour. galiuro mountain man Report post Posted December 7, 2006 If you are still looking for a bow, now is a good time to buy one, all of the shops are trying to get rid of the 2006 models and make room for the 2007's. You may be able to find a good deal. Also a lot of shops buy back or trade bows from customers, so they may have a bow dirt cheap. I have seen bows that have barely been shot for less than half the new price. Also, one other thing to think about is a few of the bow companies have a more economic line like Hoyt has Reflex and Bowtech has Diamond, they offer some of the same things, just at a better price, some of the bows from a couple years ago are in this line with a new name, at half the price. Hope this helps GMM

firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted December 20, 2006 i was in Sportsmans Warehouse last night getting my bow set up ( got the Mathews Q2 had to move the peep up quite a bit.) the guy there was very very helpful. he set my peep, cut arrows for me, shot my bow for speed, told me how to set my inserts correct and we chatted about hunting. it was great! he didnt charge me for any labor and was very knowledgeable!
