Best Gun Company?

Recommended Posts

Who here agrees that Remington or Winchester may be the greatest gun companies out there? A Remington has never let me down. Winchester is decent but I haven't owned very many. What do you think? And if I had to pick who makes the best shotguns, It would probably be Benelli, with Remington trailing beind it.

Ford...no chevy...

Seriously Savage is coming along nicely. More than satisfied with both of mine.

Pretty hard to decide... My win SX3 is the best shotgun I have shot or owned but I would still take a red label in 20g as my next one. So I guess it depends on purpose...

Handguns, AR style, carbine, lever, big bore, a whole different deal.

For standard bolt guns I couldn't choose one, Remington, win, savage, tikka, are all very good. We have one ruger which is a great rifle as well. Never owned a WBY, browning, sako, Kimber, to judge.

Guess it is good we have a lot great choices these days!

sad subject. Winchester is no more-browning and Winchester are part of a european consortium now.

i would have to say Winchester Repeating Arms(now defunct), Colt, and CZ.

Fine firearms are a global commodity-considering maybe one in 10,000 firearms produced can be considered fine. english doubles, american revolvers and european pistols have a weight in the market that has always defied borders.

for the USA! i currently like marlin.

Winchester, Remington, Marlin, Ruger, Colt, S&W, Savage all make fine production guns and some have had their share of recalls too. The quality of the firearm really rests on the decisions of management as to how much/little profit they want and whether they are willing to compromise quality for market share.

If you can fork out the cash for a custom firearm from the likes of Reeder or Baer then you are fortunate as these are in a class of their own.

This is way too braod a subject imo. I bought a savag axis in .223 and put a bushnell fixxed 10 pwr on it and I can drill anything out to 600 so far and now shoot that more than any gun. 250 $ for the stainless camo eddition and 200 for the scope, I did the trigger myself down to no creep and minus 2 lbs and it just shoots great, too many points of view to say any company is better than the next, I have never owned a bad gun but love some more than others. Win #94 is my #1 colt single act 45lc is next then ????

Big fan of vintage Ithaca... I have a 1920's Western Arms (Ithaca) side by side 12 and a 60's-70's era Ithaca/SKB 20ga O/U and both are just flat out perfect for upland hunting. The Browning Maxus is tops for waterfowl and the mossberg 835 is king for turkeys and predators. Ruger makes the absolute best .22 semi autos and I have an 80's production 10/22. Hard to pick a single best brand- but given the two choices I'd probably go with Remington over Winchester.
