Anyone hunt 36B and willing to share knowledge

Recommended Posts

OK.

My 11 year old has a youth any antlered deer tag for the Nov 22-28 hunt in 36B. We hunted javelina there in Feb. and spotted deer several days. Now that the deer have been hunted, I'm worried that they will be super scarce.

I've been out of hunting for 20 plus years but would love to at least put him in range of a buck. Anyone with experience in that area and willing to share would be greatly appreciated. We don't mind a long hike and with a youth hunter it's probably better to be away from others. A co-worker is letting us stay at their mobile so we will be based off of Universal Rd close to Arivaca.

Thanks Jim

last year when i was there, there were like 6-8 cars every evening posted up on that 39 road in about a 2 mile stretch and all were getting shots it sounded like.

I was there last week. We camped out between mile post 8-10 and where successful dropping 2 bucks. It seemed to me that they are hanging out really low and Always with another buck or two. In 2 occations I saw bucks with does, seems a little early for that still. Hunt low, I glassed up a herd of 6 deer twice, 4 of them where decent bucks. We had luck walking into canyons and popping those deer out of their bedding areas. Good luck hope this helps for you and your young one. Keep us posted

We saw plenty of deer a couple years ago in the mountains around Bear Grass tank and Lobo tank. Rough and long ride. We did not see a bunch of people either, but we get out and hike in a ways. Good luck.

hunt behind Sopori ranch. turn south before the ranch and go to Lobo tank or Sardina canyon. many average 3 x 3's and and occasional stud. not much pressure for some reason. i've done really well in the past. some stud mulies in there so be carefull before your son pulls the trigger!!!!!!

Thanks for sharing your knowledge

. We are looking forward to a nice long weekend of hunting, hanging out together and are hoping he fills a tag. The last time I hunted deer down there was in the mid 80s, I saw a pair of mountain lions pass within 50 yards, really cool to see them. I can't remember the access point to that spot, I drove in from Sasabe and turned South between some white pillars with pine trees in or near them. Drove past some corrals and ended up at a stock pond. Does that sound familiar to anyone?

You are talking the Sopri ranch entrance from the sound of it. Luckily Pima County put in access there again. It had been shut down off and on. I got ran off once by the rancher during the archery hunt in December. He was a jerk, but rightfully so based on the damage done to his stuff.
