PRDATR Report post Posted November 4, 2013 You did the smart thing by not having a confrontation with the guy. He should have gutted it and taken it out with him and reported it to G&F. They may have gone easy on him. As far as drinking in my opinion if you even had one beer during lunch your not serious about hunting and should not go back out for the rest of the day. You should be 110% on your game when you are out hunting, save the suds for when the sun goes down. When my son was about 12 he shot a button buck by mistake when he was supposed to shoot the spike next to it. He was in tears over it so we tagged and field dressed it. I explained to him why it was not a legal deer and told him we had to report it. So we wrapped it up in a tarp and drove the hour to G&F. We went in and I explained what happened. A guy came out and we took the deer out and he took some pictures saying he would use them in Hunter Safety Classes to show hunters what a button buck looked like as the antlers had not broken through the skin. He then thanked my son for doing the right thing and coming in with the deer and then told him to take it home and enjoy eating it.

joeeden Report post Posted November 4, 2013 Good job reporting it. PSA - You can have a beer with lunch and still hunt pretty hard. I've seen it happen.

Sam Report post Posted November 5, 2013 Thanks for reporting it! +1 If this ever happens to anyone remember the beer cans would have had his finger prints all over them. TJ That's what I was thinking. I'm sure some of his garbage would have prints. Game and Fish have a list of all those drawn for each unit, but I am not sure how they would match the prints.....unless his prints are alreay on record for some reason. I think alot of prints are on records now a days, many jobs require them, so he could possibly be caught. So glad you decided to report him.

az_shooter Report post Posted November 6, 2013 I was in 34B in the early bow season looking for mule deer a few years ago and witnessed a group of people out driving around and stop to take shots at a cow with an AR. Stupid people, glad you turned him in, I never called on those guys even though I should have and thankfully they were horrible shots and missed the cow who I found and made sure wasn't hit. donniedent Report post Posted November 6, 2013 I'm not beating up on anyone at all but I'm a little concerned that people are seeing stuff like this and not reporting it. Do we really love our wildlife or are we too afraid to disrupt or own hunts? I would gladly give up an entire hunt to make sure there's one less thief in the woods robbing from the rest of us and our kids. It's our job as conservationists to police or own. We aren't talking about the use of radios or questions about ethics, we are talking about crimes. Step up guys. Again, I am not beating up on any individual here. I get that being in the woods with idiots leaves us a little exposed and it can be a risk to confront and/or report, especially in the original situation in this topic but guys, they're shouldn't be any question once it's safe to do so. How much of this stuff is witnessed and unreported? Too much I think.
