MT_Sourdough Report post Posted November 1, 2013 The only antlers I saw all season was a 4 inch shed I found. I really beat up my boots, my gear, my rifle and my truck. I'm thoroughly exhausted. All I saw were does and not necessarily lots of them. A dozen or so I suppose. These little deer are crazy. I was watching one feeding in the morning. She was on a on a slope about 1000 yards or more away. I was in good camo from head to toe and I was nestled in with vegetation all around me. A rock shifted under my foot and that doe lifted her head up and looked right at me. ARE YOU FRIGGIN KIDDING ME? More than a thousand yards, that's eery. As a consolation prize, the hunting gods gave me an indian arrowhead. The first arrowhead I ever found.
Shedhunteraz Report post Posted November 1, 2013 My dad and uncle have been out in 23 since thursday and have only seen two bucks and about twenty doe. I was with them till Monday and shot one of the bucks on Saturday however its not looking good for them with how hot it has been in the southern part of the unit. Since I left its been all pig and does. We had about the same luck there. Took two of my guys who work for us out that had two tags and notta. 6 days and roughly 80 miles on our boots and 850 on the ranger in 6 days and nothing. Had a nice 3x on opening day, took the shot at 750 but he missed. We hit my honey holes east and north and went into hellsgate for a day and ran down south. And nothing. 4 does in 6 days also. Then the weather changed monday and the wind just killed everything.I think I saw more freaking mule deer than ever. All I can say it was about the hardest hunt I ever been on. But always fun being in gods country.
jcarter Report post Posted November 1, 2013 Tag soup for me! Most frustrating hunt I've ever had
Couzer Report post Posted November 1, 2013 Man ol man this tag soup was really bitter this year! I can't complain though cause I didn't get a chance to scout. I flat out missed a bear yesterday, shot right over his back I'm thinking, ranged the wrong distance.

justinspe25 Report post Posted November 6, 2013 I am enjoying some tag soup this year...not. It was a tough hunt we didnt seen anything till Sunday when i glassed up a good buck. Everything went good, closed the distance without the buck even knowing we were there. Settled in for a shot, got alittle rushed thinking he was going to feed over the top. I had my boy with me who could not locate the buck in binos. I went ahead and shot and he vanished. I thought i dropped him. It was a humbling feeling walking over there and seeing him get up and take off. I missed him clean and he just hit the deck and hid till i will was right up on top of him. My boy had a blast though and so did i having him there. There are things i wish i had done different but live and learn. Seen nothing but does and fawns after that. CWpredator Report post Posted November 7, 2013 Rifle tag soup for me. I had plenty of opportunity to kill multiple bucks but none were the ones I had found scouting or was looking for. Over the first 3 days of the hunt me and my partner had passed on over 20 bucks(had to talk my buddy out of shooting quite a few of them.) Last day of the hunt I passed up a 90" buck that my partner ended up breaking weak on the set goal and ended up shooting later on in the morning. Real cool character buck especially for his first deer. As far as I'm concerned my tag is just stewing right now as I still have December to get it done with the bow. Good luck to all that still have rifle hunts to go!
CouesWhitetail Report post Posted November 7, 2013 I came home empty handed as well. Skipped opening weekend so I could get some work done. Hunted Mon to Thurs. Backpacked into one of my favorite places Sunday night and then spent a couples days glassing in 30-40 mph wind! Wow, that was frustrating! Found a couple small bucks that I passed on, then gave up fighting the wind and did day hunts the last two days. Found one big buck on the last day, but we could not relocate after repositioning for a shot. real bummer.....but great to get out anyway! Gorgeous country!
azphil Report post Posted November 10, 2013 After 5 days in north 24a on the Nov1 hunt, Stumpsitter and I had the tag soup delivered to us by the crafty little coues. After glassing our eyeballs out and beating up the boot soles we saw not 1 buck. Several does and numerous mule deer including 1 nice tall 3X3 kept our interest up. It it was not meant to be. That area was our 5th choice 2 years in a row- same results last year. Looking for greener pastures next year.
Tucson John Report post Posted November 11, 2013 Yep! Five days in 36A and only saw one Buck. He was in thick Ocotillo and I moved about 5 yards to my left in order to get a shooting lane, and he busted me and over the top he went! I spent several hours looking for him again but never did see him. You know tag soup isn't too bad if you wash it down with some Crown! Cheers!
huntjunkie Report post Posted November 11, 2013 YEP! Shot at 2, yes two really nice 4x4s and missed! I'm not saying the distance of the shots. If I did I would have to turn in my "man card" 😫 Got rained on and almost got struck by lightning! The Sendero on my back makes a good lightning rod! 😂 thought I was going to die. It was my first solo deer hunt. Had a great time though! Can't wait until next year. Minus the lightning.
