125coues Report post Posted October 27, 2013 Ok you gun gurus I am having a problem with a rifle I bought awhile back The problem I am having is it does not always fire the bullet These bullets are new loads I have made ,new case, new primer ,and powder I can load one and it will fire great then I load anouther and when I pull the trigger it will not fire I look at the primer and it has a mark from the firing pin .i load it again and try to fire it and still nothing I load another bullet and it fires great This is a Remington 700 action and I have no clues why one bullet will fire and one will not. PRDATR Report post Posted October 27, 2013 Sounds like excessive headspace. Have someone with Go-No Go gauges check it. You could also be setting the Shoulder too far back if you are resizing the cases, try backing off on the locking ring one full turn.
125coues Report post Posted October 27, 2013 Thanks I will have the head space checked Any other ideas ?

125coues Report post Posted October 27, 2013 I do not know if it is a aftermarket pin My guess is it is not The marks from the pin look the same on a fired casing and one that did not fire

huntjunkie Report post Posted October 28, 2013 I had a similar problem and it was a weak firing pin spring.
AxisWorks LLC Report post Posted October 28, 2013 Mark, If this is a long action I have an extra firing pin spring you could try. Easy swap if you'd like to try that first just let me know. I'm in east mesa. Speedy.
