Well, it seems things got off a little slow and bucks started moving around after the snow. Not sure of the full impact of the fence just yet... some nice deer starting to drop. I saw some good teams of buddies workin together to find the big bucks. I had fun watching the rut kick off and the buck run the doe around... I ended up taking a 550 yard shot and dropped this little buck with a heart shot in his tracks. I originally set out solo to find a legendary 200" monster, but couldn't stop myself from taking this buck... buck fever I guess. Good buck, but this tag is good for some monsters if one can be more patient, and take some buddies along for a team hunt. Cool tall buck tho, I like him! We'll see how the season wraps up...

Nice job EAS. It was tough, especially early on. I was also solo so feel for ya. Sounds like a great shot and a good buck to be happy with!

I believe the fence had a huge impact. Myself as well as a few other hunters I talked to over the hunt saw minimal deer numbers on the north 1/3 of the unit. You could literally see a hundred deer in a couple mile stretch on that fence. There were also the same groups of deer in the same spot over the week hunt. I talked to a guide who had trail cameras at the crossings and said he only had a couple deer come through. More crossings and bigger openings on them would benefit the deer I think. Those poor things looked like puppy dogs with their noses in the chain link fence just looking to the other side. Guess the Utah folks like it!
