newbee Report post Posted October 31, 2006 any one see these yet?? or use them. I am thinking about picking one up and trying it out, it makes total sence. it uses a magnetic insert and is held up by (obviously ) a magnetic field what do you think? http://www.air-rest.com/home.htm
TLH Report post Posted October 31, 2006 I wonder what would happen if you stuck that thing in the dirt? Would it gather all of that graphite stuff up on it like the old magnets we used to play with when we were kids?? I dunno, me thinks me stay with the WB or trap door. dave Report post Posted October 31, 2006 It may possibly be a rest shot by target archers some day. I doubt it. Sometimes you just need a little contact as a reference point. Sure would be fun to try to tune with a medicine stone. I think some dude watched too many Star Wars movies and got his sword twisted?
bobbyo Report post Posted October 31, 2006 I have heard about this rest. I believe you need a magnet placed in each one of your arrows. It works by the magnet on the rest and the magnet in the arrow repelling each other. Can you imagine the new tuneage nightmare this could cause. Weight forward-spinechange-magnetplacement how much would your arrows cost? Bob

coueshunter84 Report post Posted October 31, 2006 Imagine a little wind and what it would do. No way you would be able to use this past 20 yards with any accuracy outdoors. Or move your bow hand just a little a tad before the shot, and have to wait for the magnets to rebalance themselves again. As stated above might be a good indoor target rest but not something I would want to take outside.
KGAINES Report post Posted October 31, 2006 Depending on the strength of the magnets, it might be very hard to move the arrow at least complared to the other types of rests out there, but I dont like that you have to add a magnet into the arrow shaft and make sure that they are all identical, plus do they move on impact. Most ideas start out with a lot of skeptacism before they get used enough to be accepted, so when there are enough archers that use it in the field we will know. BowNut Report post Posted November 1, 2006 One of the reps from one of the bow companies came to the shop with some of these on there bows. I was not there to see them for myself but they had said you had to wait a second or two for the arrow to stop moving around before the shot. Not sure how that would work in an adrenaline pumped hunt! If you had to add weight the the arrow the front is the place to add it for better FOC. I personally think that you need something there to give the arrow direction even if it is a drop away rest you get some direction from it before it falls. Just my opinion. coueshunter84 Report post Posted November 1, 2006 Magnets are a neat thing to play with. One thing I have learned through the years is. Magnetic forces opposing each other are real hard to control. Take a couple off your fridge and try it. If you try to force them together its almost impossible to hold them steady. And thats the principle this rest uses. Now granted I'm not a scientist and I'm sure there is some principle out there that states this is false. Now if they were to use an electro magnet that turned loose when you triggered the release. or something along those lines that uses the magnets ability to stick together. THat would bea rest to play with outdoors. Imagine a rest where the arrow would not move from the rest until you released. Then you would not have to worry about wind or anything else knockign your arrow off the rest. LOL.. Now I think its an excellent idea haveing a rest that does not touch the arrow at all. The concept is outstanding. I just dont think they will get it to fly for anything outdoors. Again possibly an indoor target archer who has several minutes to get things perfect before the shot. mattys281 Report post Posted November 1, 2006 I could be wrong, but from what I understand on these the magnet is only in the front of the arrow, so as soon as the front portion of you arrow breaks the field, gravity takes over & the front end begins heading for the ground before your arrow has even left the string, where as on a fixed position rest you arrow is supported by 2 points of contact until it leaves the string. Even drop aways (per the instructions I've read at least) are supposed to be tuned to keep contact until an inch or two before the fletchings, thus providing that support. These might work great for all I know, but I'm not interested in one.
