firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted October 31, 2006 this has been asked before, and debated to heck but my first was at 340, and when he kicked out of his bed that he was going to die in, 400. at 400, i shot 4 times, missing high the first, the next two were an inch apart through his lungs, and the last was in his shoulder. he would not stay down. my next was about 150 yards and last years was 250. on my 270wsm, i have target turrets with the drops out to 500 and i am comfortable to that far with no wind. EBB Report post Posted October 31, 2006 Couse shot at 40 yards, 125 yards, 180 yards, 200 yards, 325 yards. Antelope 525 paces flat ground(dead calm morning and I wasn't gonna get any closer). The 325 couse was 4 shots all behind the shoulder but with 130 grain ammo from a .270. Got home and pulled all the bullets and changed to 150 grain. Everything else was one round each. coues4x4 Report post Posted October 31, 2006 Nothing closer than ....1000 yards yeah 1000 yards or maybe 2000 yeah 2000 just kidding.I guess it depends on what your confident in and comfortable with.I shot a muley at 317 and a whitetail at 340 both with one shot and both with my 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser.My brother (hightracker) killed an elk at 317 yards and dropped it where it stood,of course he had a bigger rifle 30-06 Howa,he's pretty good with that rifle.Get comfortable,have a steady rest,take a deep breath and sqeeze the trigger on your exhale.Good luck. redneck74 Report post Posted November 1, 2006 I shot a buck on Monday at 450 yards, I used a range finder to get the distance. 2 years ago I shot a buck @ 760 yards. One shot kill All you need is a GREAT spotter someone that can see where your bullets are hitting.Then you need a good range finder and the most important thing you need is a VERY good drop chart Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

JACK Report post Posted November 1, 2006 I shot a buck last year at 535 yards with one shot and I shot a jackrabbit at 430 last winter and I even had two witnesses!! I've missed them alot closer too! (This kind of scared me because i thought that i may have been shooting at a robo deer from the azgfd) But i made my adjustment took a deep breath and nailed it through the heart. shortpants Report post Posted November 2, 2006 206,452,212,315,339 running full speed (yes that was luck) but ended up with the wrong buck on that one,and 362. I also spotted for my good friend Brian on his 120+'' buck taken at 614 yds. I have shot moa groups at 900 yds. and have also not been able to shoot an 8'' circle at 100yds. It's all about knowing your ability's (?) on that day. Right now I'm shooting a new rifle and have not practiced enough to be able to shoot with confidence yet but I will. WFGinNM Report post Posted November 2, 2006 My only shot was at around 300 yards I thought (he was much closer), I didn't have a range finder and the bullet landed in AZ 27 somewhere it was a major miss.
