Just got in from hunting unit 35a, first whitetail hunt in 12 years. We didn't bag a deer, but I had a sucessful hunting trip, took my 11 year old son and we had a great time. The country where we hunted is very beautiful. I must confess being a mule deer hunter all my life these deer are harder to hunt than mulies(it hurts to say that!).The highlite of the hunt for me and my son was watching a fawn race around in circles on the side of a hill, then stop jump in the air and take off again, all the while the other fawn just watched it and mom bedded down, We had a great hunt. Thanks to everyone for the advice. Now it's 2 weeks to the kids junior hunt in 36a(any antlered deer) we'll go after mulies, for sure. B)

Mulie hunter,

You have a great attitude! Hunting is about having fun. Don't feel too bad, I know some great coues hunters that are having tag soup in that very same unit. This weekend in my unit, I saw many hunters getting frustrated. They did not look like they were having any fun. I think they would be better served to have your attitude. Filling your tag is really not that big of a deal. Good luck on the youth hunt.

Mulie Hunter,

I think that your attitude is great and I like how you say that you still had a successfull trip even though your tag was not filled. My dad told me many years ago even though it is nice to get a deer, it is more important to enjoy the time out there together. I enjoy hearing about success like your! Good Luck in your future hunts.

Brian,

Appreciate the update, I was wondering how things went. You've had an outstanding attitude and did some quality scouting trips. It's great that you got to spend some quality time with your son and I'm pulling for you on the youth hunt!!! Knock one down!

Great report! I enjoy watching the fawns and their antics too. Glad you had a fun hunt. Got a digital camera? if not, consider getting one, then you could snap a few pics of your adventures to share with folks here (and at home).

First time loading a picture, hope it all works the way it should.

I was out with Mulie Hunter and I have to agree spending time with my boy, and being in Gods country makes for the most successful hunt one could have. No we didn't bag anything, but just having the one on one time with my boy and watching the does and sunsets like this (if picture worked) makes it all alright.

I forgot you guys were across the road, I could've waved to you from the top of the Mt. Everest we were camped on! Glad to hear you guys had an enjoyable hunt, and as others have said, you have a great attitude about our sport and what it's about! I think alot of us that were hunting down there got some photo's of that sunset........I think it was Sunday night? I took a bunch and will post them in my story. Best of luck to the kids! JIM>
