ceg Report post Posted October 22, 2013 We returned from our Alaska caribou drop hunt a couple of weeks ago and I am finally getting some photos posted. I went with my father, father-in-law, Houston Davis, Mike Dewees, and Mike McCleery. We ended up waiting three days in Kotzebue before flying out into the field because most of the caribou were in a restricted area where planes can't land. We were finally flown out and after two days in the field with no caribou our pilot picked us up and moved us to an area where we were able to get into them with only a couple of days left. It was pretty cold, especially leaving September weather in Arizona and going to that. One morning we had about 5 degrees! It was a great experience and one I hope to do again in the future. We flew with Golden Eagle Outfitters who is an air taxi service out of Kotzebue and Delta Junction. They worked hard to get us in front of the caribou and most of all they were honest. I would highly recommend them to anyone needing a flying service out of Kotzebue. caribou skull and antlers buried in the sand Grizzly 250 yards from camp My dad trying to stay warm My father-in-law Earl Houston Davis Me with my bull View the full article

WHT_MTNMAN Report post Posted October 22, 2013 Looks like you guys had an awesome hunt. Had to be nerve wracking waiting three days to get out and hunt. Yeah and then we waited 3 more days in the field without seeing anything but 2 grizzly bears. Very different and tough hunt for sure. One more of Clay showing off the tops of his bull. One of my favorite shots showing the 206 coming in to take us out.

WHT_MTNMAN Report post Posted October 23, 2013 Only wolf was from the air. I'm sure there are times when caribou hunting may be easy, but ours was not one of them... we were extremely lucky to get caribou at all. Huge thanks to Golden Eagle.
