25-06 Report post Posted June 15, 2004 HAS ANYONE EVER FOUND ANY LION SKULLS OR REMAINS OF A LION ? I KNOW THAT LIONS WILL SOMETIMES FIGHT TO THE DEATH OVER TERRITORY BUT I ASSUME THAT MOST WILL DIE OF NATURAL CAUSES...ANYWAYS I THINK THIS WOULD BE THE ULTIMATE FIND. CouesWhitetail Report post Posted June 16, 2004 The only time I have found lion remains was from one that we had radio collared. We didn't get to it until it had decayed quite a bit, so not sure what caused it's death. But my guess would be another lion, although it could have been wounded by a hunter and not retrieved. Rembrant Report post Posted June 16, 2004 I grew up collecting skulls. Used to have more than 200. Called myself growing out of it one day and tossed them. Anyway I found a dead lion down Fossil Creek Road in 6A. Totally skelontized, with holes punched in the cranium (paretal bones) - consistant with a lion kill. Figured if someone had shot the critter in the head the holes would have been cleaner, and the hunter would have kept the cat. Mike

GRONG Report post Posted June 21, 2004 25-06, Back in '93 I was shed hunting in unit 8 and found a dead lion. I smelled it that's how I found it. It was all dried up with a horrific mummified look on it's face. I'm pretty sure another lion killed it. I've got pics of it somewhere. Then in 36C back in '95 I was archery deer hunting with some friends and they spotted some crows flying and checked it out. Dead lion, hadn't been dead more than a couple days. Hard to say what killed that one. I've got pics of it somewhere too. Dan King from Tucson found where two lions got in a fight. Both mortally wounded one another on a big rock pile I think. One died on top and he found the other one at the base of a decent cliff where they impact finished it off. I think they kill each other quite often. I know my dad has found a few over the years while hunting for them. Josh
