Big Browns Report post Posted October 14, 2013 I'm interested in going Elk hunting in Wyoming in the next few years. I will be going into 2014 draw with 1 PP. Is there any units that I would be eligable for? Not looking for a monster. I would be happy with a small Bull. I just want to have fun. I would prefer to hunt the rut, but would be willing to put in for a late season tag. What are my best options? I will also have 3 PP for Antelope. Can I hunt both at the same time? If not is there a unit that I can Hunt Antelope and come back later for Elk? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Adam
CouesRanger Report post Posted October 14, 2013 Colorado is right across the border what area are you thinking for your antelope tag? Had buddies who would go to colorado for elk and up to wyoming for antelope 4 weeks of archery and 2 weeks of rifle

Big Browns Report post Posted October 14, 2013 I have no idea what area to hunt Antelope in Wyoming. I've herd the Casper are is nice and the units in that area are easy to draw. I'm just hoping to find a unit that has plenty of opportunity for average size buck's and has some left over doe tags. It would be nice to hunt a unit that I can come back ot for Elk in the future. Any suggestions? If I don't get drawn in Az next year I'm planning on going to Coloardo for an OTC Archery Elk hunt. I've also herd they have OTC rifle hunts, but don't know anything about them. Do you have any info on that? Adam

joe hunter Report post Posted October 15, 2013 1 point won't get you into any of the top unit's but it will get you a general elk tag in the general units and I think with that tag you can hunt any general unit.....I think that's how it works..... I drew a WY tag last year for a limited entry unit with 5 points. Also in some units you can hunt archery and come back with your tag and hunt rifle if you haven't tag out already. With 3 points for antelope you can draw a pretty good unit or you could put in for the special draw (twice the price) and get into a real good unit.
cmbbulldog Report post Posted October 15, 2013 If you are looking for average antelope, they are literally all over Wyoming. Pick any unit you draw with 2 or 3 points, and you will have no issues filling those tags. For elk, You can also draw a general tag with 1 point and hunt many areas in Wyoming. wapitibob Report post Posted October 15, 2013 If all you want is a 13" buck and some does, apply for unit 59 1st choice and your chosen unit as 2nd choice. Apply for two doe tags in the same unit as your 2nd choice buck unit. Do your homework and make sure you will draw the 2nd choice unit. If for some chance you don't draw the buck tag, you should still get the doe tags, provided you did your homework... For Elk, apply for a top end unit like 30 or 31 1st choice and gen as 2nd choice. You'll be hunting Elk and Antelope, used no points to do it, and will get points for both going into the following year.
Big Browns Report post Posted October 15, 2013 Do you have any recommended gen Elk units? I was considering putting in for Unit 73 1st, 21 2nd choice for Antelope. Are you familar with those units? I was also considering 27. I would really like a unit that has a lot of public land. Thanks, Adam

I'm in the max point pool so I should be drawn next year - hopefully!
wapitibob Report post Posted October 16, 2013 You will not draw 73 as a 1st choice regular draw, you might draw in the special price draw however. You could draw 21 as a 2nd choice, you will not draw 27 as a 2nd choice. I haven't looked at any GEN elk units.
