23 SCOUTING

Recommended Posts

Made it out to 23 this pm for some scouting, took my kids(all 4 of them) with me for the chance to spend some time with them. We stopped to glass and I let them get out of the truck and I walked a fence line to get a better view of some bluffs I am planning on hunting. My kids were being kids, slamming doors etc and playing and trying their hardest to be quiet. I glassed the ridgeline and saw a few deer, looked like coues but unsure and then I noticed movement in the bottom of my glasses and there was a herd of carp about 60 yards away that had fed up out of a small draw. There were 3 bucks and 2 were shooters, one a 4x 3 but pretty spindly and the other a 3x 2. My kids all came over and had a look and then went back to playing and those deer never spooked for 10 minutes, then I saw the larger buck look up and stamp a little so I turned around and my 2 youngest daughters 5 and 7 were running up the hill chasing butterflies  , they did not stick around long after that. Oh did I mention it was muzzleloader season and these deer were on public land? Anyway my kids had a blast and so did I , couldn't really get out and cover country but saw some deer nonetheless. I am taking my oldest girl with me on this hunt, she is 9 so hopefully she will see some more deer. Oh and she also learned that you never pull up your britches after using the facilities of mother nature without standing up first, she filled her pants with seed pods by pulling them up while she was still in the action position if you know what I mean  , you think a 9 year old can wiggle around too much wait until you see one with underwear full of little stickers!!

I've become a pro at helping my girls pee in the woods! Definately a new experience for fathers to figure that one out! We've had to hang up pants on more than one occasion to dry.

I've done 4 scouting trips this fall with my kids and had a blast on every trip. Getting kids involved early is what its all about.
