biglakejake Report post Posted October 13, 2013 that 1953 '06 my dad bought at babbitt brothers in '54. if its rainy and wet maybe that 1950 .270 i paid too much for(lol!) back in 2000. lots of 24A hunts over 30 years but my first muley tag there-have not hunted deer with the '06 since 1978 so this will be a real treat. lee ps both 100% original except for the tru-oil finish i put on the 30/06.

CraigK Report post Posted October 13, 2013 Redman. Nice rifle and one heck of a group!!! Kyle builds some amazing rifles. He trued my action, adjusted my trigger, put a new barrel and a brake on my Rem 700 7mm mag and it shoots 1000 times better than before. One of these days I hope to get a fully custom from him. Good luck on your hunt! Kurt
azpredator@work Report post Posted October 13, 2013 Some nice rifles out there guys - if only the deer knew what is heading there way The end of the month hunt in 34a will be the maiden voyage for both my son's rig and mine.My son's rig is a Sako A7 300 WIN MAG topped with a VX3 6.5 x 20.Mine is a Sako 85 300 WSM topped with a Zeiss HD 5 x 25.Both zeroed in @ 200yds and have 90 practice rounds each down the tube. Any bucks around 80" at 500 yds or under won't stand a chance.

Pine Donkey Report post Posted October 14, 2013 This post got me thinking...I don't have a gun to use. My .270 Ruger M77 is having issues since my son fell off a ledge with it in his pack several years ago. My last three deer have been taken with his .270 which is a custom rifle he built on a Mauser 98 action. It is a sweet shooting machine, but when he went off to college he took it with him. My wife and daughter have the same hunt as I, so they will be using our Remington 700's in .243 and .308. This leaves me with unproven guns. There is a nostalgic part of me that wants to use a lever action .35 rem that was my dads when he was a kid, but it just does not fit my coues hunting style. I don't feel a .22-250 or .223 will carry enough energy out at the 500 yard range. I hate dragging a heavy .300mag around unless I know I will be shooting 500+. A couple years ago I bought a 25-06. It is a caliber I have always wanted. I put a lower end scope on it, and worked up a load that was over lapping shots at 100 yards. I zeroed it at three hundred and put it in the safe. I guess it is time to pull it out, put a better scope on it, and run some lead through it.
