Healy Arms Report post Posted October 13, 2013 couesdeerhntr, We have this gun on the rack if your in the area and want to swing over and look at it - http://www.healyarms.com/remington-870-express-super-magnum-sythetic-w-26-inch-barrel-25102.html Wondering - if your SX2 is too heavy and you're buying specifically for your wife, have you considered a gun for a smaller stature? Does it need to be a heavy-mag gun? Does it need to be a 12ga? Shotgun accuracy is all about the fit, so perhaps a gun better for a lady frame might be in order. Thoughts? Scooter Report post Posted October 15, 2013 I want to buy a new shotgun for the wifey and i want it to be a 12 guage and be able to hold a 3 1/2 inch shell. I have a winchester sx2 and it is just a little too heavy for her. Any reconmendations? Yes... Get a Browning Maxus 12ga with a 26" barrel. I have one in 28" and I LOVE IT!!! I'm not a woman, nor am I small in stature or recoil sensitive- but it is just about the lightest 3.5" semi-auto and the forend is a lot thinner. Shoots every kind of 12ga shell without a hiccup and keeps on going. The only other light shotgun in the 3.5" class that I would handle would be a Benelli Super Vinci. I personally like gas-op shotguns, but people do like their Benelli Inertia guns.
123456 Report post Posted October 16, 2013 3 1/2" is quite the load.. Most, and I do say most, not all, women will not want to shoot a 3 1/2" mag. Having said that, if you go with a gas operated shotgun, the recoil will be greatly reduced vs. a pump or inertia gun.
Scooter Report post Posted October 16, 2013 The 3.5" is certainly not for the faint of heart- but is an invaluable tool for getting a big ol' tom turkey on the ground... It only takes one shot normally (plus patterning shots before the season) so the recoil will not be a factor as much as if you were using them for geese or ducks and doing a lot of shooting. Turkeys- that's the only time I'd use a 3.5" and I wouldn't worry about it when using good shotgun shooting form.
creek hunter Report post Posted October 26, 2013 Food for thought . . . My dad taught me years ago that a lighter round (less recoil) that could be shot with better precision was much more effective than heavy mag loads. I have shot many a duck and a a few geese with a 25 year old 870 loaded with 2 3/4" shells. The key was the accuracy. My son shoots an 20g 870 using 2 3/4 load of number 2 and has amazingly taken a number of ducks . . . Again the lighter recoil is the key . . . The 20g has also take him a turkey two years ago.

couesdeerhntr Report post Posted October 31, 2013 Sorry guys left a little info out and yes i know the 3.5 inch shell is a big round but like you guys said it will be her turkey shotgun. In my opinion there is no better shell to smack a turkey with. She allready has a 20gauge that we quail and dove hunt with that she loves but i would much rather her shoot a 3.5in 12 guage round at a turkey. I do want gas so that it helps with the recoil.
