wyguy Report post Posted October 8, 2013 I am attending Forestry classes and have an assignment to write a paper about Forestry policies and controversies. (Need to be current issues going on). My dad already suggested pre-shutdown road closures. I'm just trying to brainstorm. Anyone have any current policy issues right off the top of your head? Thanks. Big Browns Report post Posted October 8, 2013 You could write something regarding benefits for part time wild land fire fighters. It might help people become more aware of the issues. Adam
CouesPursuit Report post Posted October 8, 2013 Fire management is huge, look into WUI projects, fire suppression and prescribed burns (This would be the easiest paper IMO) Bark beetle infestation and treatment Your dad's recommendation may be referring to something like the TMP (Travel Managment Plan) that Tonto and some others are in process of completing, takes them a while but a good topic as well Good luck bud!
outdoor rush Report post Posted October 8, 2013 I am doing the same assignment i did mine on the implementation of the Travel Management Plan in the Tonto forest. There is a lot out there from both sides of the argument and a lot of history in the law making power of the USFS.
CouesPursuit Report post Posted October 8, 2013 You can also tie in that Mexican Spotted Owl and other endagered species both benefit and lose in specific forest restoration practices, and how an endangered species influence whether projects get approved or not. Weston Report post Posted October 8, 2013 I had to write the same paper in forestry classes 5 years ago... I did road closures as well.... I remember how hard it was to find scholarly articles on road closures.... I think the mandate of copper ammunition in some areas would be an interesting paper. DesertBull Report post Posted October 8, 2013 How about why people that live in a high rise condo 3000 miles away and have never even hiked a man made trail should not be managing a western forest?
GotBowAz Report post Posted October 8, 2013 I know this has probably been beat to death and Im not sure if this applies but it appears to me that Game cameras have rules from forestry and controversies regarding them. Be a curios research why they feel the need to remove them within 72 hours and exactly what controversy there is with having them in the field for extended periods. n2horns Report post Posted October 9, 2013 Forest management ie., thinning, treatment, prescribed burns, cost effective vs fighting multi million dollar fire cost plus cost of lives etc... compare / contrast how the indian land/forest are cleaner, healthier from thinning vs federal forest that are a disaster. muledeerarea33? Report post Posted October 9, 2013 What I'm dealing with this year, access. Private property in the tens of acres that's blocking around 500,000 acres of forest land. Azgfd ranch access guy said they indeed messes up and never got easement access. I'm relying on private owners to gain access to hunt the forest lands. Very secluded and it's nice that its basically untouched but the effort it's taken to get permission is unreal.
