bullwidgeon Report post Posted November 3, 2006 I was there the last 4 days. I never saw another hunter, I spent Sunday-Tuesday backpacked up pretty high a few miles from the roads. I saw over 30 bucks but none worth packing out 4 miles on top of all my gear . I hunted low by the roads yesterday and missed a 80 inch 3 pointer right before dark. It was a great hunt but I never could find any good ones. I saw alot of 2x2's with nice eyegaurds and decent frames and 2x3's with the same situation, the last time I had a 33 tag the mountain was loaded with clean 3x3's. Maybe the lack of winter rain last year affected some of these bucks. Bret M.
scoutm Report post Posted November 3, 2006 Buckshot - we did fill one of our tags. We had chances to fill both but one bad stock and one bad shot left us with one unfilled tag. Saw our share of bucks but nothing too big.
More D Report post Posted November 3, 2006 So Bret if you missed that 80 incher that means he must have been way too close..............right ? Never heard of you missing much of anything.
bullwidgeon Report post Posted November 3, 2006 He was over 400 and he wasn't exactly standing still, with 5 minutes of hunting left in the season I figured, hey might as well let one fly . I reserve most of my misses for giant bears, but the little guy got lucky somehow. I really wanted a buck I had video'd and seen for the last 2 years pushing 110, missing the 80 incher is just more salt in the wound after spending 3 days up in the rocks looking for a ghost. I gotta NM tag for this weekend, revenge will be mine... Bret
