wetmule Report post Posted November 4, 2006 Bill, this author in his research came up with a conservative estimate of over 13,380 Mozambican refugees were killed and eaten by lions between 1960 - 2005, with a great majority of the fatalities occuring in the 90's. The US committee for refugees estimated that just in the 80's & 90's 1.7 million refugees crossed Kruger and surrounding lands trying to get to South Africa for work and a better life. At any rate its a good book and there is no doubt that alot of refugees got eaten by lions. They have to eat and they do not discriminate between wildebeast and humans, whatever is easiest for them, and people on foot at night when lions hunt the most is one heck of an opportunity. Interesting read.
