/>Kwp- it takes a rebarrel not just rechamber.. new barrel 318$ , chamber and thread 150-175 $ total near 500 plus a wait . if you go with a chrome moly barrel you still have add a bluing charge too,. you could just buy a rem 700 adl varmint from dicks with a scope for 499 . 243 or 22-250. A stainless adl from sportsmans for about the same. ( if the 270 is a 700 i would rebarrel IT to 6.5-284 ). also the 721 is a long action , not needed for a 6.5X47 or creedmore.

I am aware it will require a new barrel, wrong use of words on my part and am aware of the long action vs short action. The 270 is a model 700 but it has significantly more sentimental value so it will not be used.

As far as recoil goes. The 260 Remington 6.5 creedmoor and 6.5x47 all have about the same case capacity and recoil very similar to the 243. The 6.5-284 has a bit more kick I would say closer to the 7-08 than the 308. The standard 6.5-06 is essentially the same as the 6.5-284 but the Ackley version kicks it up a notch with recoil very similar to the 270 win. Of course all this depends on stock shape rifle weight and type of recoil pad used. A good recoil pad can effectively reduce recoil by a good margin.

KWP - i have two 6.5-284s . both on rem actions. a long action 700/721 would work good. . my sendero weight 6.5-284 (8.5lb) i have shot in long range matches but it does kick, brakes are not allowed. . GReat as a hunting rifle for coues and i have shot coyotes with it also. the idea of a "go to coues rifle " and "a rifle for a first time hunter ", it is not a .243 class recoil , instead very close to a .270 , but with the addition of a brake it could be . i have shot out to 600 yd in matches it does quite well. my 17 pound single shot is better for that though. decisions decisions. enjoy. ron

I told a friend ounce if you want to get brain soup just open a load data book and figure out what caliber gun you want to build. LOL

I would consider leaving the gun as is, finding a used Stevens/Savage short action, rebarrel it to a 260 Remington using the best barrel you can afford and drop it into a Hogue pillar bedded stock. Brass can be hard to find, but you could neck down 7mm-08 brass or neck up .243 brass. The new powders, Superformance, CFE 223 and Leverevolution could make that .260 sing. Changing barrels is a snap in Savage type actions.
