Dan H Report post Posted October 2, 2013 Don't believe there's a thread for Roadkill so figured I would add one for those of us that spend a lot of time on the highways. So to start the first post. I tried to PM BowhuntAZ1 since I know he traps and may want the hide. Male Bobcat on Beeline this morning fresh when I got there still warm, I moved him off the road if someone wants to go pick him up PM me and I will give you directions within minutes from Bush Highway turnoff. Only hit in face so hide in great shape. Dan
My Rights As An American Report post Posted October 2, 2013 Prime bobcat furs have been fetching a major premium last few years as I understand it! A few hundred dollars if done correctly and thick fur. Still early for a great thick skin and fur, but I am no expert.
Scooter Report post Posted October 2, 2013 My Brother-in-law in NY literally fills his gas tank for 6-8 months on the Raccoons he picks up and skins out every October-April... I went out to the store with him one winter when I was visiting when he suddenly slammed on the brakes and I was like "What happened"? He threw it in reverse and said "I just saw a $20 bill laying on the shoulder"... Needless to say once I saw the dead Raccoon- I became aware that roadkill can be very valuable when fur is prime!
My Rights As An American Report post Posted October 2, 2013 The fur may not be prime yet, but there is definitely money there to be had. If the skull is not crushed, there is another source of money. In its prime that is easily a few hundred dollars. Someone jump on this or I may get all redneck and go out there.
DesertBull Report post Posted October 2, 2013 If that were an elk or deer you would not be able to legally posses it. Is it different with fur bearers? Have no idea just curious.
Guest wdenike Report post Posted October 2, 2013 If it was prime, which I believe it is still a little early. Unless you were the first one to see it. It would have been glommed up. And even being the first to see it, if the driver that hit it was a trapper or varmint caller. You would have had a foot race to see who got the prize!! 22-6mm Report post Posted October 2, 2013 If G&F knows it's a road kill they will take it away, unless you have a salvage permit. Best to put a 22 round in it so you can say you shot when you take it to be tagged for export.
Dan H Report post Posted October 2, 2013 You can get salvage permits from DPS officers for any game can't you?
22-6mm Report post Posted October 2, 2013 That's my understanding. Road kill is not a legal form of taking, shooting and trapping is with proper license. A friend of mine took a road kill cat in to be tagged so he could sell it only to have it taken away by Game & Fish this past winter. No need to find out the hard way. Guest wdenike Report post Posted October 2, 2013 man, the Government even regulates roadkill... where does it stop?! You said it, wonder how many thousands thought it. More gooberment intrusion!! Wonder what dna expertise they have that qualifies them to tell the difference from bruises from getting hit by a vehicle. Or those received from hounds during a fight. I'm sure it is simple they walk on water, Just like there brothers in Washington. Take care, Willie
