THOR Report post Posted October 3, 2013 This is my 2cents Since we all hunt WT Im sure 90" WT= 320" elk 95" WT=330" elk 100" WT= 340" elk 105" WT= 355" elk 110" WT= 375" elk and so on...that's just the way I think about it. Anything over 350 is huge, so many people say they have seen a 400 inch bull but they don't know what they are looking at. a 400 inch bull doesn't look normal. Looks like he is going to fall over and you wonder how he can move through trees.
bowhunter81 Report post Posted October 3, 2013 To me it just depends on what units and what hunts when you ask that question. To me I tend to hunt units that don't have as good genetics or a lesser bull to cow ratios. Although there still are 380 bulls on occasions anything over 250 don't get a pass from me. Draw odds are fair and there's nothin like chasing elk. I've taken lots of bulls and they're all trophys to me. One of the smaller ones I took on an archery hunt is my most memorable took him on my last day and last hour of a 14 day hunt. My trophies are more measured by the experienceces of the hunt. It's true it's all about what you wanna shoot and have been greatful there are no antler restrictions.

Becker Report post Posted October 3, 2013 From the Taxidermist point of view they are all BIG!!! Thick skinned stinky big nasty ELK!!! At 300 inches they become difficult to handle!!! The funniest thing to me is guys throwing out scores. I sat in Alpine and Springerville for most of the archery hunt and the beginning of the rifle/muzzy hunts. I had a mounted bull elk on a stand by my trailer and about 75% of the people would come up and say don't tell me what it scores I want to guess. I would tell them every time, "Don't get carried away with your guessing." The bull Grosses 328. Only one guy guessed 330, everyone one else was 350 or higher!!! They are all shocked when I tell them 328!!! The biggest thing about elk is that there are soooo many measurements. Most people don't seem to realize that if you add just 1 inch to each point and the beam length you have just jumped up by 12. 330 to 340 in all relative terms is not that big of a difference. And so on down the line. just add the tip of your pinky finger to every point and you have jumped up in what most people designate classes. 340,350,360.
Shedhunteraz Report post Posted October 3, 2013 Shedhunteraz and out2hunt are guys that I believe this website was originally started with. Back in the day we all talked about the enjoyment of the hunt as they have in the above posts. The harvest of the game is suppose to be for the meat it provides your family. Our own Game & Fish and many many hunters apparently have never been taught that. The wall mount is a remembrance of the experience. Were coming back to Hawaii in march, Need to find something to shoot over there. Would love to do axis or hog hunt

Another thing I see a lot of people do that don't know how to score add in the base measurement and that could be 20"+ that that doesn't exist.

I don't need any help scoring I have hunted elk for 40 years now and sold $20,000 dollars in sheds so I might no a little about scoring but maybe not.I know for some that isn't very many sheds.I know a man that has sold over $100,000 Not one person on this thread has evened mentioned extra points they add up big time you brought up your 328 bull and 340.350 and 360 to me i live in the woods you spend your time mounting animals I don't think a 360 bull is big i spend more days in the woods then most of the big time outfitters this isn't about ego or I am better then anyone the decline of big bulls is going down plain and simple and with a crappy rut the easy kills on water didn't happen I only saw pics of 4 big bulls and one was on the san carlos.you had 5 people like your post do they no how to score elk and how long have they hunted.Heck go to Monster Mulies and look at HPO outfitters they show 5 bulls and not one would score over 370 they stand so far back from the elk you have no idea how big the elk are.
