fatfootdoc Report post Posted October 27, 2006 my father in law is a custom knife builder so I use a knife that I made with him out of an elk I shot and then have a back up knife that my grandpa gave me several years ago. It is a schrade and it has done well for me. Of course I was in CO carp hunting one year and had food poisoning one day went out the next and did not feel good so I took the extra gear out of my pack, unfortunately I never put my knives back in and had to use my pocket knife to gut the deer I killed( 2 inch blade ). ruffcountry Report post Posted October 28, 2006 i have several knives i like but it seems like the one im always looking for when dressing a deer is a buck fixed blade not sure what model , its kinda long and skinny and really holds an edge.
Idahocoueshunter Report post Posted October 28, 2006 I carry my grandfathers Marbles knife. It is a good knife that holds an edge, but I carry it to bring my grandfather along on all my hunts. He was a coues deer hunter who hunted primarily for meat. In his wildest dreams he would not have imagined his knife skinning elk or caribou. I do carry a steel and stone with me to sharpen the knife occasionally. Craig.
