BASS Report post Posted October 29, 2006 I always thought it would be fun to screw with the road hunters by putting a McKenzie archery deer target next to the road and sit back and watch the idiots’ trip over themselves trying to get out and get a shot. azyoung missedagain, and I were talking about this yesterday. I would love to put my archery target under a tree right off the road and sit back with a camera. I don't think this thread is talking about having to crawl down a road to keep from busting a CV shaft, or throwing an alignment off, or even not being able to walk due to health. I, personally, think this thread was started for those who are driving 5mph down a maintained dirt road with guys in the bed of the truck, not letting any other vehicles pass. Or those who want to drive their quads to the water hole to glass from; even though none of us glass right, because these guys can glass an canyon just over Mach 3 and be done. Can't those with problems walking (because of health, not laziness) apply for a permit that allows them to hunt from a vehicle? I also do not have a problem sending another member a PM with info to check out a new spot to them that I have hunted before. I do have a problem sending any info to those who make an account, and their first post is "Where should I hunt in XXX?" and then they are never heard from again. There is a difference from someone who has made an account and doesn't post often, and someone who is just tossing a hook out and hoping someone bites. That's just my opinon, and it's worth what you paid for it.....
Kilimanjaro Report post Posted October 29, 2006 the best memory I have of road hunters is.... We were mountain lion hunting with hounds in NM one year and it happened to be archery muley season.. We were headed up a well maintained dirt road that leads up into the hills, roading the dogs getting them ready. Along the way, we pass a slow rolling MINIVAN that had no less than 6 "bowhunters" crammed in the back, all camoed uo, with even their faces painted!! They had the side sliding door wired open so they could get off a quck shot if need be.. bowhunting for the big 'un!! Hard Core hunters.. I had never laughed so hard in all my life!! billrquimby Report post Posted October 29, 2006 "Can't those with problems walking (because of health, not laziness) apply for a permit that allows them to hunt from a vehicle?" CHAMP permit holders are not allowed to “road hunt” as we would define it. They cannot “pursue” (road hunt) game with a vehicle or shoot from a moving vehicle. The way I read the CHAMP regulations, a person needs to lose a leg or be close to blind to qualify. Those of us who are slowly losing our lung functions because of medicines taken for other more threatening conditions do not qualify, even though we can no longer walk more than a couple hundred yards without having to stop and rest, even on flat ground. Bill Quimby My father in law suffers from COPD and has a CHAMP permit, his physician certified his disability. We will be road hunting tomorrow and hopefully Tuesday and/or Wednesday (he has a hard time going in consecutive days) It would be great for him to get a shot at a deer during this stage of his life, harvesting one would be awesome. If he wounds a deer, another hunter (me) can go finish the job (meaning track and shoot the deer). Bill I would encourage you to pick up the application from the game and fish and discuss with your physician if you have a hard time catching your breath. So for those of you who see a couple of hunters riding quads tomorrow stopping and glassing from the quads and hopefully shooting from a quad, wish us luck. This could be his last year to hunt.
