rackemup Report post Posted September 29, 2013 I'm trying to get myself geared up to get out hunting and I don't have 1000+ $$$ to spend on optics. I'm looking at spending more like $200 for right now...Is there a bino you would recommend in my price range just to get me by until I can buy some high end glass? Thanks Shaun
creed_az_88 Report post Posted September 29, 2013 Any of zen rays stuff. Impressive glass for the price. You are probably going to get a lot of people suggesting vortex. Zen rays warranty isn't as good as vortex but they do have a decent warranty. All zen ray models have better glass than any vortex model in the same class in my opinion. The only downfall to zen ray is that they are China made.
KiLLAcOuEs Report post Posted September 29, 2013 Nikon Monarch 5 12x42 are good!! Sometimes you can find them on sale for 279.00. I use Minox 15x56 and sometimes on cameralandny.com you can find the open box Minox 15x56 for 549.00. If not save...save... save... it will be well worth it when you can get a good pair of Bino's. rcdinaz Report post Posted September 29, 2013 Borrow some and save. For an inexpensive pair most people would lone them to you, you can always return the favor. For $200 you could rent some from Ross Outdoor as well. Or find a used pair to really stretch your $.
CRAZYBUCK Report post Posted September 30, 2013 Vortex is your best bet I have the 12x50 diamondbacks paid about 240 can't beat the glass for the price and warranty
Guest wdenike Report post Posted September 30, 2013 I'll second the Diamond Backs by Vortex. I have a set of 8x42 that I got for Christmas, cause I wanted a beater pair for lion hunting and varmint calling. Truthfully!!! I do use them for lion hunting and varmint calling. But they are nice enough that I sure don't beat on them. I take dam good care of them. Defiantly one of the best mid to low mid priced glass out there. Take care, Willie
kazpilot25 Report post Posted September 30, 2013 I also recommend looking at the diamondbacks. They were my first real binoculars over $100 and were great for the money.
rackemup Report post Posted September 30, 2013 I pretty much have to go off of your guys recommendations because i dont have a good sporting goods store within 2-3 hours of me so I'll be ordering off the internet (I wont be able to look through them before buying). I do understand the importance of quality optics and i know i will eventually save the money and buy quality glass but i dont want to take my self out of the game by choosing to bypass the lower end optic to save for the nice binos... Reading reviews online and adding the input here on CWT.com so far I'm leaning towards the Vortex Diamondbacks...Thank you for the info guys Shaun
GreeneMachine Report post Posted September 30, 2013 I just posted a topic regarding Leupold's customer service. They replaced a pair of 10x42 Cascades that I scratched...no questions asked. If I remember, they were somewhere in the $200 - $300 range. I personally really like those binos for short to medium range glassing. Make sure you go with a brand with good customer service. I understand you wanting to buy something now and save for something real nice later. But it would chap my ars if I spent $250 on some glass, had something happen, and then be in a position of having to decide if you should buy another set of lower cost binos.
