Lost Bull Unit 10

Recommended Posts

Looking for some help from the members. I shot a bull on Thursday in Unit 10. Made in hit on the bull in the Liver area. Lots of blood until he rolled under a Juniper tree and stopped a lot of the bleeding. The broadhead I was using lost blades, all though made a clear pass through on the bull. We decided to leave the bull alone after we jumped him at 300 yards were he was originally hit, but an older well meaning friend wandered off only to come back 15 minutes later excited that he had jumped the bull. Unfortunately we lost a lot of the sign when he mixed in with some other elk. We have spent the last 3 days looking with no success. The bull is a heavy horned herd bull that would go about 350 plus. The last sign we found was found in a general area around Highway 66 and east of Seligman about 8 miles. Bull may have crossed over highway 66. Any help from you rifle hunters still out there is greatly appreciated.

Contact game and fish. Give a discription of the bull, location, etc. I have a friend that did this. A bull was found in the area he shot his bull. He met the G&F and the person who found it at kill site. G&F said they would let him have it if it was the bull he discribed. Turns out it was not the bull he shot. He contacted G&F before the hunt ended.

Good luck.

I will contact Game and Fish on Monday. Thanks for the information. I kind of thought that would be the case if the bull was found.

Regards,

Phil

I thought once the hunt ends the bull becomes the states. If fish and game is involved and found before the hunt ends then you can clam it? Right or rong.. there's several stories out there about this same situation. ... Steve Chappell lost a bull a couple years ago and found after the season closed and G&F wouldn't give it to him. He had to buy it back from G&F at an auction...

FYI, I found a antelope right after the archery hunt in unit 7, called Game and Fish who met me out there. He showed where an arrow had gone through the ribs, He said new policy is if an animal was moratlly wounded by a hunter Game and Fish gets to keep the animal for auction.

I guess that any animal lost and then found after the season close becomes the property of the AZ Game and Fish Department. From what I now understand you can look all you want for the lost animal after the season, but if found the Game and Fish department needs to be notified. They will investigate. Possibly depending on your proof you may or may not get to keep the rack. The antlers may be taken by Game and Fish and put up for auction.
