Casey's first Scalies..

Recommended Posts

Made a morning with Firstcoues on Fri and took the kid out on his first Scalie quail hunt.. We loaded up right at daybreak and I took him to a few of my "secret" spots that are always good for a few Scalie coveys.. Well, it didn't take long. Got a few few good points from the pups and Casey was successfull in getting a couple of birds.. After that, we went to a diff area and got into a bunch of Gambels... none of which are dead because of our shooting! By that time, it was getting really warm, so we took the pups to their favorite swimming hole and let them cool off abit before heading in! All in all, a pretty good morning!

This is what you call "nailing a single down to the floor!"

Casey with a couple of his very first AZ Scaled quail and a couple of hot and happy bird dogs!

And a couple of rare and elusive AZ swamp boogers.. they are only seen when there is an explosion of duckweed growing on stock tanks.. :D

she comes from a long line of grouse dogs from the UP in Michigan.. the kennel owner winters here in Tucson and brought her to me when she was 7 weeks old..

Very cool pictures Scott. Good to see those dogs having some serious fun! Nice shooting Casey!

I've run into some way high in the steep mountains down there a time or two. One of these days I might have to take my new pup up in there for a hike. ;)

Deer this weekend! :D :D

good job to both of you. Casey, I had never hunted scalies either so last weekend while scouting for my sons 36a hunt I ran into some and hoofed it back to the truck for the shotgun so I could say I have shot a scalie as well. I like how they hold alot better than the gambels who run like chukkar........LOL........congrats and Scotty, great pictures.............Allen........
