GRONG Report post Posted June 13, 2004 I noticed something new in the reg's. If you harvest a deer with your bow you must report it to the AZG&F within 10 days. About time they did something like this. Before there was nothing to stop anyone from taking 2 deer/year unless someone narked on them. Finally the G&F did something right. Diamondbackaz Report post Posted June 13, 2004 I don't think it will help much since many will not call. It should be required that people that want to hunt a general season, turn in their unused archery tag. The phone call rule is better than nothing, but it goes back to relying on someones honesty like you had before. If a person doesn't take their animal to a butcher or a taxadermist shop where the tags are logged, and then don't brag about their kill, know one would never know. Rembrant Report post Posted June 13, 2004 Something that would work really good for this would be to separate the rifle from the archery hunts - make the archery tag a draw tag. And we don't want that, do we? With freedom comes responsibility. We gotta use ethics in the field (when no one's watching), and since there will always be poachers, we also gotta help the wildlife managers catch the bad guys. Right now our archery hunt is our back up. If we don't get drawn for anything, we can still go bowhunting. And the more I learn, the more I'm beginning to realize the late archery hunt could be the best hunt in the state. With the way the Dept has separated the deer hunts (mulies from Coues), stratified Coues hunts in some regions and elk hunts in others - to maximize the rescource - I think it is probably just a matter of time until the archery deer hunt becomes a draw tag. I hate to even say it. Enjoy it while it lasts. These are the good ol' days. Mike
Arizona Griz Report post Posted June 13, 2004 At least the G&F is working in the right direction. Maybe people will call, maybe not but something is better than nothing. Arizona Griz.
coues addict Report post Posted June 14, 2004 Hey Guys, I am a California resident and we have a different system over here. I actually think it works pretty well. When we harvest an animal, we have to get our tag validated by a fish and game officer, police officer, or fireman. That person then records all the info and one portion of the tag gets sent off to Sacramento, fish and game headquarters. This procedure is required on any harvest, archery or rifle. I don`t think Ca. fish and game is near as good as Az. but maybe they actually did something right on this matter. We actually have a two deer a year bag limit with archery only tags available over the counter at a fish and game office. I just thought you guys might want to know this stuff. Good luck Coues Addict
couesdiehard Report post Posted June 15, 2004 There's a phone call I won't worry about too much! I have hunted with my bow every season for the last 4 years and haven't tagged anything yet. Don't get me wrong! I am not about to stop bowhunting coues and mulies but I would be so happy to tag either with my bow I think I would be calling all the G & F Commissioners at their homes. Sure I would miss out on some rifle hunting the rest of that year but I think it would take at least that long for my swollen head to shrink back down. Call within 10 days of killing a deer with a bow! I should have such a problem!
KGAINES Report post Posted June 15, 2004 I can't agree more, a coues with a bow, I'm calling, i'm e-mailing pictures, I'm giving them the link to this website where I post my story. One can always dream I guess. That cracked me up couesdiehard.
az4life Report post Posted July 11, 2004 (edited) I have a question for everyone. I noted in several post threads where people seem to say that if thye are drawn for rifle deer, that they cannot hunt archery in the same year. Am I reading right? Seems it used ot be you could do bot. Not that I have gone for archery, but just would be good to know. Thanks in advance for not making me read al the regs to find out on my own. Guest Ernesto C Report post Posted July 11, 2004 If you get drawn for rifle deer you can archery hunt the same year but as soon you bag your deer you are done for that particular year;so if you bag one with your bow you can't hunt the rifle hunt that year. Ernesto C.
Arizona Griz Report post Posted July 11, 2004 Ernesto got it right. You can hunt all the seasons until you kill. One deer per year.
az4life Report post Posted July 11, 2004 That is waht I thought I was reading into the other posts, but I thought you could get 1 deer with each. As I said, never having bow hunted I needed the input. Since I generally put off y coues season til late hunt Rifle, I would not really have the opportunity to bow after rifle season. Thanks
Diamondbackaz Report post Posted July 12, 2004 I beleive there was a period that a person was allowed to bag two deer a year back in the days when there were a bunch of left over whitetail tags, but those days are gone.
Arizona Griz Report post Posted July 12, 2004 (edited) Back in the late 80's or early 90's I had two rifle deer tags three different times. Those were the days. That will never happen again. Edited January 1, 1970 by Arizona Griz
Guest Guest Report post Posted July 12, 2004 That was back when few people wanted to hunt whitetails. And fewer people knew how. I had a 23 tag about 20 years ago and my younger brother and I tried to hike-up some deer. My brother killed a little one. Back then I could hike all over the Anches and then do it again the next day - and then again the next day. Youth is wasted on the young. Mike
az4life Report post Posted July 12, 2004 Youth is wasted on the Young! Now there is a Realism I thought I remembered being able to get multiple tags. You guys are all describing just what I thought it still was. Although it has been a while since there were any leftover tags...
